Just in case. There is a Legacy specific discussion page.

The chicken is a domesticated fowl. In the game, it refers mainly to the female chicken. A male chicken is called a cock.

How to Acquire

There are two possibilities:

  • Wild flocks of chicken may randomly spawn on a Grassland, Moor, or Heath, and will stay in one general area. Right-clicking a chicken will cause your character to chase it. The chicken will flee, so running is necessary unless you are standing directly next to it. Once caught, it will appear in your inventory.
  • Build a chicken coop for breeding hens and cocks. When a chick is placed inside a chicken coop with sufficient fodder, it will turn into a hen or cock.
  • Chickens removed from the coop will rapidly revert to Quality 10 chickens.

How to Use

  • Animal Husbandry enables you to breed chickens. A chicken coop, a cock and a hen are required to produce fertile eggs, that will hatch into chicks.
  • A caught chicken can be slaughtered via the "Wring Its Neck" option to convert it into a Dead Chicken.
  • If killed via combat, it will leave a Dead Chicken as its corpse.
  • Chickens require food, and if left in your inventory/storage will die, leaving a low quality Dead Chicken (chicks leave no corpse). This will occur within 3 in-game days (please edit with more accurate time)
  • If you do not have a Chicken Coop or fodder, you can keep your chickens alive longer than 3 days by releasing them (Left-click to pick up chicken, then left-click somewhere on the ground) and catching them again (Stand as close to them as possible to avoid having to chase them).
  • Chicken are able to run through Roundpole Fence.
