For combat moves to be effective, a player must raise either Unarmed Combat or Melee Combat, preferably both. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Heavy changes to the combat system were made in the update {{patch|title|Bumfights}}.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In order to learn a combat move, an animal must be defeated in melee combat. The move learned is based on the animal defeated, but otherwise appears to be random. (Minor note: During the first iteration of combat discoveries, prerequisites to use the move had to be met. As of world 10, this is not the case and you can pick up moves at random. Some players have had issues with getting a move like chop without getting a way to gain initiative points.)&lt;br /&gt;

General formula for determining amount of opening seems to be:&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;math&amp;gt;\sqrt[3]{W_a/W_d} \cdot O_b \cdot (1.0-O_c)&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Where &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;W_a&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is attack weight, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;W_d&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is defense weight, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;O_b&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is base opening % from the move, and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;O_c&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is the current opening of that type in the target.&lt;br /&gt;
Example:&lt;br /&gt;
A player who has 50 uac, 25% green opening and is in lvl 4 Chin Up defense mode is attacked by a player with 100 uac by level 5 punch.&lt;br /&gt;
Defense weight will be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;50\cdot1.4&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and attack weight will be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;100*0.8*1.5&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;.&lt;br /&gt;
The opening that will be added to the defending player will thus be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;\sqrt{\sqrt{120/70}} \cdot 15% \cdot (1.0-0.25) \approx 13%&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and the total opening will be 38%&lt;br /&gt;

For combat moves to be effective, a player must raise either Unarmed Combat or Melee Combat, preferably both. &lt;br /&gt;

Heavy changes to the combat system were made in the update {{patch|title|Bumfights}}.&lt;br /&gt;

In order to learn a combat move, an animal must be defeated in melee combat. The move learned is based on the animal defeated, but otherwise appears to be random. (Minor note: During the first iteration of combat discoveries, prerequisites to use the move had to be met. As of world 10, this is not the case and you can pick up moves at random. Some players have had issues with getting a move like chop without getting a way to gain initiative points.)&lt;br /&gt;

Where &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;W_a&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is attack weight, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;W_d&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is defense weight, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;O_b&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is base opening % from the move, and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;O_c&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is the current opening of that type in the target.&lt;br /&gt;
Example:&lt;br /&gt;
A player who has 50 uac, 25% green opening and is in lvl 4 Chin Up defense mode is attacked by a player with 100 uac by level 5 punch.&lt;br /&gt;
Defense weight will be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;50\cdot1.4&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and attack weight will be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;100*0.8*1.5&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;.&lt;br /&gt;

For combat moves to be effective, a player must raise either Unarmed Combat or Melee Combat, preferably both. &lt;br /&gt;

In order to learn a combat move, an animal must be defeated in melee combat. The move learned is based on the animal defeated, but otherwise appears to be random. (Minor note: During the first iteration of combat discoveries, prerequisites to use the move had to be met. As of world 10, this is not the case and you can pick up moves at random. Some players have had issues with getting a move like chop without getting a way to gain initiative points.)&lt;br /&gt;

For combat moves to be effective, a player must raise either Unarmed Combat or Melee Combat, preferably both. &lt;br /&gt;

Heavy changes to the combat system were made in the update {{patch|title|Bumfights}}.&lt;br /&gt;

In order to learn a combat move, an animal must be defeated in melee combat. The move learned is based on the animal defeated, but otherwise appears to be random. (Minor note: During the first iteration of combat discoveries, prerequisites to use the move had to be met. As of world 10, this is not the case and you can pick up moves at random. Some players have had issues with getting a move like chop without getting a way to gain initiative points.)&lt;br /&gt;

Where &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;W_a&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is attack weight, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;W_d&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is defense weight, &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;O_b&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is base opening % from the move, and &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;O_c&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; is the current opening of that type in the target.&lt;br /&gt;
Example:&lt;br /&gt;
A player who has 50 uac, 25% green opening and is in lvl 4 Chin Up defense mode is attacked by a player with 100 uac by level 5 punch.&lt;br /&gt;
Defense weight will be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;50\cdot1.4&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt; and attack weight will be &amp;lt;math&amp;gt;100*0.8*1.5&amp;lt;/math&amp;gt;.&lt;br /&gt;

A well can be used, in conjunction with a [[bucket]], to acquire [[water]]. Unlike shallow waters, obtaining water is not immediate. Rather you have to wait for the animation for the well to finish before the bucket fills up. The quality of the well&#039;s water based on the quality of the water source. The quality of the water is higher the closer to the centre of the source the well is.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You will need to discover: Rope, bucket, stone, wood blocks.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==How to Acquire==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Craft a [[Dowsing Rod]] and then equip it. Once equipped, you start getting pings at a periodic interval. Proceed with the following guide to find where to try and place the well. (Guide written by TurtleSir on the Haven forums.)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
1) The dowsing rod points to higher areas of the water table. &amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
2) Wait for a dowsing, walk a few steps in the direction it&#039;s pointing, then wait for another dowsing. &amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
3) When you find the highest point, it will say &amp;quot;The water table won&#039;t rise any further from here.&amp;quot; This is what you&#039;re looking for. HOWEVER: It doesn&#039;t always mean that you can build a well there, the water may still be too low despite being the highest point in the area.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
4) Try to place a well to be sure. You can&#039;t build on forest terrain, the easiest way to turn it to buildable terrain is just to dig one soil, then place it back, which will turn a 2x2 area around itself into dirt. NOTE: You need at least 1x2 buildable area to place a well, the tile where you place it AND the tile under the handle.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
5) If the water table is not sufficiently high, it will say &amp;quot;The water runs too deep.&amp;quot; and you will need to find another spot. Move away from your spot (10-20 tiles) until you get dowse readings from another spot and start over.&lt;br /&gt;

&#039;&#039;&#039;Your character needs to eat in order to survive. It is easy for a new player to starve to death if their stamina is low and if they get wounded. If you want your character to stay alive keep him/her well fed until you learn how quickly stamina and healing drain your hunger bar.&#039;&#039;&#039;&lt;br /&gt;

Your [[attributes]] are based on the food you eat. You gain strength, charisma, dexterity and your other skills from your choice of food. This means that if you rely on only one or two foods your attributes will get out of balance. If you eat only chanterelles and blueberries you will get high dexterity and high intelligence but all your other stats will lag. You need to eat fep equal to the number of your highest attribute to gain in any attribute. So if your dexterity is 20 and you need to gain strength because it is still only 10, you will have to eat 20 fep to go up to an 11 in strength. If your attributes get badly out of balance it is extremely hard to raise the trailing stats.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
You will probably eat a variety of different foods so your fep bar will show several different colours. If your fep bar shows 2 fep of strength, 4 fep of psyche, 3 fep of dex and 1 fep of charisma and you need to eat 10 fep to gain any attribute you have a 20% chance of gaining strength, a 40% chance of gaining psyche and so on, proportionate to what you have eaten.&lt;br /&gt;

Look for [[Apple Tree|Apple]], [[Hazelnut Tree|Hazelnut]], or a [[Mulberry Tree|Mulberry]] [[tree]]s, found in broad-leaf [[forest]]s. If you find one, right-click it to pick a fruit, which will then appear in your inventory. You must have at least one empty tile in your inventory to do this.&lt;br /&gt;

Once acquired, right click on the fruit for the option to eat it. If you eat an apple, you will have to drop the apple core to empty space in your inventory (or on the ground). Each tree produces only a certain amount of fruit at a time, and fruit doesn&#039;t help in increasing your [[attributes]], so try not to rely on them for too long. Once you decide to venture outwards, though, make sure to have some surplus food in your inventory.&lt;br /&gt;

You also might be able to scavenge [[fox]] kills. Foxes kill [[rabbit]]s. The most common place to find a dead one is at the edge of the water, where rabbits often become trapped. Foxes also kill [[chicken]]s. Chickens are found in [[grassland]]s, [[moor]]s and [[heath]]s. When a fox attacks them, they scatter; so if you see chickens running around, there is a good chance a fox has been hunting them, and you might be able to find one or more dead. Fox-killed rabbits and chickens are just the same as the ones that you kill yourself, except that you don&#039;t need to have the [[hunting]] skill to make use of them.&lt;br /&gt;

Raid [[Ant Hill]]s. You also need the hunting skill for this. Just right-click on the red mound near ant swarms. The option &amp;quot;Raid&amp;quot; will pop up. If you find an ant hill near water, you can press the raid button, and quickly walk into the shallows. Wait until the ants touch the shore and walk back out. Look for [[rabbit]]s. You need at least four empty tiles in your inventory in a 2x2 square. Get as close as you can to a rabbit. Wait until it stops moving and stand exactly beside it, but so that the rabbit is still visible to click on. Right click on the rabbit.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If it runs away and you missed it, immediately click the round button with crossed swords beside the picture of the rabbit that pops up in the top right corner. This will stop the aggression between you and the rabbit, and it will soon stop running away, giving you a chance to find it and try again.&lt;br /&gt;

You will need to right-click on the rabbit in inventory to wring its neck, and then right-click again to butcher it.&lt;br /&gt;

In some terrains, you can look for [[chicken]]s, too. They are caught and killed the same way as rabbits, but are easier to catch.&lt;br /&gt;

Try to avoid eating any meat raw, as you get sickness [[FEP]], which can cost you hit points. As long as you can find [[branch]]es to make a [[fire]], you can [[Roasted Meat|cook meat]] from the Craft menu.&lt;br /&gt;

You can attack and try to kill larger game, such as [[fox]]es and [[deer]]. They will not attack you until you attack them first, so you can fence them in to make it easier and shoot at them safely from outside the enclosure. Hunting enclosures are usually made out of [[fire]]s. Just put one branch in, and then move on to make the next fire. It will make a row of little signposts that the animal cannot escape. A good place to enclose an animal is just at the edge of water. They often stop there, and it takes fewer fires to enclose them. Foxes are the easiest to kill, followed by boar, although boar will attack you. You may want to hunt boar from a boat or after enclosing yourself next to a boulder. Deer will not attack you unless you attack them so they are easy to trap. However, deer will heal animals that you are fighting; if you try to kill one of a herd of deer, the other deer will keep healing it, making it harder to kill.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
[[Auroch]]sen and [[mouflon]] are not good quarry to practice on, as they mob you if you attack one of them. You will need to enclose the entire herd, with your target animal enclosed separately from the others, to remain safely out of their reach.&lt;br /&gt;

By using a [[boat]], you can safely attack &#039;&#039;any&#039;&#039; animal as long as you keep just out of range. This is one of the better ways to hunt aurochsen and mouflon.&lt;br /&gt;

If you have [[Stone Working]], you can make a [[Rock Lobster Lure|rock lobster]] lure from a [[stone]] you chip off a boulder. Unless you can make a lure or find [[leech]]es, you will need to [[Terraforming#Digging|dig]] in the dirt to get [[earthworm]]s for bait; this uses a lot of [[stamina]], and thus may make you hungrier than whatever fish you catch.&lt;br /&gt;

Fishing is done in waters where fish can be seen. If you don&#039;t see fish jumping out of the water every few seconds, there are no fish there.&lt;br /&gt;

While fishing is not the easiest option for a single player, it is probably the best starting skill for a group of players located close to a lake or a river. Dividing the necessary tasks (1 hunter, 1 forager, 1 stoneworker, 1 lumberjack-carpenter) allows for the steadiest income of food possible without relying on luck to find prey or edible plants.&lt;br /&gt;

==Creating Your Character==&lt;br /&gt;

When creating a character you will begin as a small shining ball with no form and no name, which you will choose now. There are three NPCs in this room, as well as a chest, a ladder, and potentially a staircase.&lt;br /&gt;

The NPC to the eastern side of the water will let you choose your gender; right-click him to switch between the two options.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The NPC on the northern side of the water will help you choose a name; right-click her and type in the name you desire for your character. If it is already taken, you will have to choose something else. Or use the Gen button to auto generate a name.&lt;br /&gt;

So I&#039;m in the process of making a necromancer&#039;s cloak and there isn&#039;t information about the resulting quality of bone ash so I thought I should share. 52Q kiln, 45Q charcoal, 159Q bone material resulted in 104Q bone ash. I came up with the possible formula (avg Q bone material*2)(Q kiln)(Q fuel)(1/4). ==How to Acquire==&lt;br /&gt;
You can only build a cellar on the ground floor in a house such as a [[Log Cabin]], [[Timber House]], or a [[Stone Mansion]]. You must have [[Locks &amp;amp; Bolts]] and have [[Discovery|discovered]] metal to do this.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Enter your house, and use:&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
Choose a location for the cellar door to create the signpost.  You can stand on a cellar door, and possibly place objects upon it, but it cannot be moved once built.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Once you have completed the construction, equip a [[Pickaxe]]. Right click on the newly-constructed cellar door, and you will begin removing a [[boulder]].  Once all boulders are removed from the cellar, it may be entered and used. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The skill [[Locks &amp;amp; Bolts]] is required for this mining action as well as the construction of the cellar, alts without the skill are unable to mine the boulders.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
*The Log Cabin requires 16 boulders removed and gives 6x4 space.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Timber House requires 24 boulders removed and gives 9x6 space.&lt;br /&gt;
*The Stone Mansion requires 48 boulders removed and gives 12x8 space.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
All cellars have two squares unusable, the staircase which is always in the upper left corner of the cellar, and the square directly in front of it.&lt;br /&gt;
