|repwith = Bone Glue x6 (8 hours to be usable again)
}}

A battering ram can break down walls, homes, or just scare the hell out of your neighbours with your military might.

After building a battering ram, it takes 24 real life hours for the glue to dry and make it usable.

How to use
To use the battering ram, right-click it and select "Move". Your cursor will change to the icon you get when you select the "Lift" option. You can now push the ram to where you click, so you can take it to the wall or building you wish to demolish. Simply moving it close to the target isn't enough; you have to click on the target with the weird cursor. Next, release your grip on the ram, right-click it again, and now you should also have the "Use" option available.

A battering ram can only be pushed for a small distance before breaking down (reportedly 20-25 tiles, needs verification), so make sure to build it close to the wall you wish to attack. If your strength is too low and you don't have people to help you, Boar Tusk Snuff can make for a nice boost.

Damage
The damage you deal while destroying is the square root of your strength.
A ram adds a static 20 damage and allows up to 4 people to combine their damage.

Pickaxe does not help while using a battering ram, according to loftar.

<math>{Damage}=(\sqrt {strength})+(\sqrt {strength})+(\sqrt {strength})+(\sqrt {strength})+20-{Soak}</math>

Say we have 4 people attacking a palisade, one has 64 strength, the others have 124 strength. The damage you deal to the wall is calculate as follows:

<math>38=(\sqrt 64)+(\sqrt 124)+(\sqrt 124)+(\sqrt 124)+20-25</math>

Deer fight solo, but can be found in herds. They have the ability to heal other animals and themselves for (DeerLevel)*11 but its capped at 100. They sometimes will attack you and kill you while you are unconscious. To get to you, Deer will destroy any objects obstructing their path with lower than Soak 25, meaning only Palisades and Brickwalls stop Deer from chasing you.

The quality of all Deer materials (Raw Hide, Meat, Intestines, Bones/Teeth) is equal to Deer Level*10. Raw Hide, Intestines, and Meat are softcapped by Survival and your carving tool. Bones are only softcapped by Survival.

Combat Behavior
Deer will attack with a stomp when their attack meter is high enough. They will also use a move that will give them initiative points and another that will fill both attack and defense meter. They will also heal themselves in the midst of battle as well. Deer are notably stronger than boar in terms of combat skills.

How to combat them
Use dash to counter against the defense drain and side step each that they use the balance special. Alternatively you can simply try to use opportunity knocks a few times before hitting them to undo the intiative gain and damaging them.

If it starts getting too much advantage over you, try to be able to use opportunity knock a few times followed by a valorous strike to return advantage back to 0.

Unless you have a strong sling and high marksmanship, it is not recommended to use a sling against a deer as they can heal damage dealt to them and you may not be able to damage them fast enough to overcome the healing as range damage does much less consecutive damage than melee. If you insist on sniping them alone, you should make sure the deer are isolated, your sling quality is at least 25, your marksmanship is at least 50, and that you have plenty of stones available. You may get lucky and be able to kill it within a few hits, but the battle could also drag on for a long time. You may be able to pull it off with weaker stats and even when other deer are present, but following these guidelines gives you a pretty good chance at a fast kill.
}}

Bears are considered the toughest and most vicious animals in the game. Bears will, like Boars, attack you unprovoked. A level 10 bear will hit for approximately 800 HP. They sometimes will attack you and kill you while you are unconscious.
To get to you, bears will destroy any objects obstructing their path with lower than Soak 25, meaning only Palisades, Brickwalls and wall of Strongboxes can stop bears from chasing you.

The quality of all bear materials (Raw Hide, Meat, Intestines, Bones/Teeth) is equal to Bear Level*20. Raw Hide, Intestines, and Meat are softcapped by Survival and your carving tool. Bones are only softcapped by Survival

MaterialQuality = ((Level*20 + ToolQ)/2) + Survival)/2 = (Level*20 + ToolQ + 2*Survival)/4

BoneQuality = (Level*20 + Survival)/2

Combat Behavior
The bear is going to start off with using a move that gives it 6 (!) initiative and a boost move before attacking you with either a swipe or a bite (the most dangerous of the two). Then it will fill up its attack and defense like most other animals. Fortunately it does not try to gain advantage like the boar or auroch does.

Bears go berserk when they're close to death, and they will start using a skill to instantly refill their attack bar. You will need to be ready to do a lot of damage fast if you plan to finish the bear before it finishes you.
You can tell when a bear goes berserk based on its combat portrait, its level indicator disappears and its eyes turn into flames.

How to fight it
Melee: Bears can take off a large chunk of defense, if not outright hurt you. You will need combat stats of around 150 to combat against a lvl X bear melee without calling down thunder. If not, then you are best to fight against it at a range where it cannot hit you. You want to opt for slide if your defense starts to drop, especially after an attempted bite. Otherwise you can use dash or even slide to keep your defense high while gaining initiative.

Alternative tactic for X bear and ~70 Melee skill: Get behind some cover (boat or wall will do) and start calling down the thunder till you get 30 initiative. Then opportunity knock the bear 4 times in a row, immediately followed by a valorous strike. Retreat, repeat. You should not lose more than 40 hp each time with proper gear. The third strike should be a simple sting (remember, the bear has ONLY 800 HP, and you can do up to 300 damage at once!) to put him aflame. Then, finish him off with a valorous strike.

Other cheap ranged tactic: Shoot at the bear from a boat or shallow water that's out of its reach.
As of world 5 the bear will run away if you are in water shooting from it- but will come back. Afteword, it will not retreat anymore.

Another cheap ranged tactic: Try to lock the bear in or out of your palisade or brick wall. You can shoot the bear safely from the opposite side of the wall without it running off. This is only effective if you find a bear close to a gate. The one word of caution is to make sure you have enough time to run back into or out of your gate and lock it back before the bear catches you.

If your combat skill is not high enough, then use range to shoot it where it cannot reach you or simply avoid it.
NOTE: Make sure that you <u>skin</u> the fox corpse before <u>butchering</u> it otherwise you lose the raw hide. That is, if you want the skin.

Combat behavior
They will attack with a bite or claw when their attack meter is full. They have moves that will grant them initiative points as well as filling both attack and defense meter. Sometimes they'll use a move which grants them combat advantage. It happens rarely, but when it does, it's used repeatedly as long as fox has enough initiative points. Most of the time, they ignore this skill for the full duration of the battle, even if they have enough points to use it.

How to fight them
If you are not able to damage them at the first attack, you may want to use dash to gain initiative points to use sidestep for balance while keeping your defense meter full. You only need a few balance advantage before getting initiative to attack.

If you find yourself losing defense more than you can recover, you may want to take the offensive path instead by using charge to get initiative to about 9-14 before using opportunity knocks before following that quickly (or it will regain the defense meter) with an attack. Hopefully, you can cause it to flee or at least severely wound it.

World 4
From now on it can destroy signs (not fences etc) and can kill you after KO (like boars and bears)
Cattle can be lead around by equipping a Rope, right-clicking on the animal, and selecting 'Leash'. Cows can have twins on rare occassions.
Cow
Cows, female cattle, are the only source of millk other than feeding Aurochs Four-Leaf Clovers. Heifers, cows that have not give birth yet, do not produce milk, thus you will need access to a Bull in order to get milk from a cow. Cows can only 'store' a maximum of 10L at a time. Calves drink the milk, so be sure to leave enough for them.

A female cow will take 4.5 real life days to give birth.

A calf takes 10 real life days to grow up.

A non-pregnant cow eats 4.8 units of food per day (a food trough holds 200 units). A pregnant cow eats 10 times as much (48 units per day). A lactating cow eats 4.8 units of food per day, plus 1/10 unit for every 1L of milk produced.

Milk
Cows produce Milk at a rate of Milk Quantity * .01 per 10 minutes. That is .1L/10 minutes at Quantity 10. .4L/10 minutes at Quantity 40, 2.0L/10 minutes at Quantity 200.
Bulls, male cattle, are mainly used to pull Wagons, though cows can also do this.

Bulls are also used to impregnate cows. It is a good idea to separate your bulls from your cows, to ensure that you can select the highest quality bull to mate with your cows when you want calves. You should also use your lowest quality bull to pull a wagon, since quality has no effect on wagon-pulling and if you have to flee and leave your wagon behind, then the loss will not be as bad.
Pigs give Raw Pork instead of Boar Meat. Pork has all of the same applications as Boar meat and can also be used in Bierwurst where Boar Meat cannot be.
If multiple clovers of different quality are fed to the same sheep without sheering it, then all the clovers will average to one quality. Example: A sheep is fed a Quality 20, 30, and 10 clover then shorn. All three wool extracted will be quality 20.
An aurochs can be tamed to become a cow or a bull. See this page for more info about taming wild animals.
Aurochsen spawn in herds on Grassland (bright green terrain), Heath and Moor (yellow terrain with grass). They sometimes will attack you and kill you while you are unconscious. Aurochsen (like mouflon) are unable to break signs.

The quality of all aurochs materials (Raw Hide, Meat, Intestines, Bones/Teeth) is equal to 10. Raw Hide, Intestines, and Meat are softcapped by Survival and your carving tool. Bones are only softcapped by Survival.

Note: The singular noun is aurochs while the plural is aurochsen.

Quoting Loftar:

The singular is obviously "aurochs", seeing how it is cognate with English "ox". Accordingly, the only reasonable plural form is, of course, "aurochsen", seeing how "ox" still uses the Saxon plural form "oxen" even in Modern English.

Combat Behavior
Aurochsen will attack with a stomp when their attack meter is high enough. They will also use a move that will give them initiative points and another that will fill both attack and defense meter. Sometimes they will use a special that will shift the balance towards their favor by one if they have enough initiative points.

An aurochs will not flee if severely wounded (the same is true of mouflons).

How to fight them
Because the whole herd will swarm you if you attack one of its members, range combat is a near must, especially considering that multiple aurochsen can obtain combat advantage on you as well as deplete your defense meter at alarming speed. Since it is difficult to trap the entire herd, it is best to create a wall of signs around yourself with a boulder inside so that you can attack them from a range with relative ease.

Getting Hair
Right click the Aurochs and it will give you the option to "Pull Hair." Use this with extreme caution as it can equally get you a new Curiosity or a dead Hearthling. Each Aurochs yields only one Aurochs Hair.

Getting Milk from Aurochsen
You can get 2L of Milk from an aurochs. To do so, you need to get one or more Four-Leaf Clovers and to have a Bucket in your inventory. Pick up a clover from your inventory and right click on an auroch, then pick up a bucket and right click on the aurochs to milk it. Each bucket can hold the milk of up to five milkings (needing 5 clovers) whether from one aurochs or several.
Ants are found around Ant Hills. When raiding an ant hill, all the ants guarding it will attack. Unlike most other creatures of this game, ants do not deal grievous damage. Because of their lack of means of damaging HHP as well as their simplicity in difficulty, ants are often used to learn how the basics of the combat system.

As of World 4, ants deal HHP damage, and can kill you.

Combat Behavior
Ants only have a basic attack and a move that increases their attack meter. They will constantly fill up the attack meter and use their attack when it is around 65% full.

How to fight them
It takes only a small amount of basic combat stats to kill ants with a single blow. Using the jump ability will refill lost attack meter, should an attack either miss or not deal enough damage. The bloodlust maneuver combined with the punch attack is the fastest way to dispatch ant swarms.

Each ant swarm should be killed individually. Raiding an ant hill causes all nearby ants to attack, so killing them beforehand is important to a successful raid. Failure to do this can quickly drain defense due to multiple opponents.

Ants can pass under fences, so hiding behind a roundpole fence will provide no protection from ant attacks. However, ants cannot track you though water, so if ants are chasing you near water, walk into the shallows, walk a few steps along the river, and hop out, free to resume raiding the nest without the ants bothering you, even if they are nearby.

Notes
*An unarmed skill of 10 will reduce an ant to exactly 0 Defense with a punch.
A boar is one of many different kinds of wild animals in the game. Boars also stand out as being one of the tougher creatures due to their aggressive nature and the likelihood of encountering them on forest terrain. Fortunately, boars are notably slower than most other animals as their fastest movement speed is somewhat slower than a player's running speed, making it possible to outrun them given enough time and stamina. Finally, boars may be tamed to become domesticated pigs. They sometimes will attack you and kill you while you are unconscious. Sometimes they will use a special move that will shift the balance towards their favor by one if they have enough initiative points. If their advantage gets high enough, boars will start using a move that will rapidly increase their attack and defense meter (indicated by a throbbing heart).<br />
<br />

How to combat them
Use dash to counter against the defense drain and side step each time they use the special move to shift balance in their favor. Alternatively, you can simply try to use opportunity knocks a few times before hitting them to undo the initiative gain and damage them.

If the boar starts gaining too much advantage over you, try to use opportunity knocks a few times followed by a valorous strike to return advantage back to 0.

If things go too badly, try to find waters or a house to retreat towards to get out of their attack range. Boars move a bit slower than running speed, so you should be able to outrun them provided your stamina can hold.

Boars are able to destroy Roundpole Fences so it is not advisable to use them for escape.

It should be noted that when the boar's health begins to fall past a lower level it will turn passive and attempt to flee.

Tips
It has been mentioned that boars are one of the few animals which run slower than a Hearthling's third speed several times. Use this to your advantage if you need to flee from them or when trying to hunt them. If they begin to run away from you, you can punch them from behind for maximum damage, even with no red bar. For an easy kill against high levels boars, sling rocks at them from a boat, and then when they start to run you can hop out and chase them down.

PAGENAME are domesticated creatures, kept mainly for Milk and Beef. In order to obtain cattle, you must tame Aurochs.

Cows can only store a maximum of 10L Milk at a time.

Bull
Bulls, male cattle, are mainly used to pull Wagons, though cows can also do this.

Bulls are also used to impregnate cows. It is a good idea to separate your bulls from your cows, to ensure that you can select the highest quality bull to mate with your cows when you want calves. You should also use your lowest quality bull to pull a wagon, since quality has no effect on wagon-pulling and if you have to flee and leave your wagon behind, then the loss will not be as bad.
Foxes are not aggressive to players but will attack any rabbits or chickens nearby. A player can pick up the corpse of the small creature afterwards.

MaterialQuality = ((Level*20 + ToolQ)/2) + Survival)/2 = (Level*20 + ToolQ + 2*Survival)/4

BoneQuality = (Level*20 + Survival)/2

To get to you, boars will destroy any objects obstructing their path with lower than Soak 25, meaning only Palisades and Brickwalls stop boars from chasing you.

Boars will attack with a stomp when their attack meter is high enough. They will also use a move that will give them initiative points and another that will fill both attack and defense meter. Sometimes they will use a special move that will shift the balance towards their favor by one if they have enough initiative points. If their advantage gets high enough, boars will start using a move that will rapidly increase their attack and defense meter (indicated by a throbbing heart).<br />
<br />

Feldspar, Inkweed, Four-Leaf Clover, and Wild Windsown Weed can be found on moors.

Though a moor, by definition, could be confused with a marsh, it more accurately refers to Moorland. To further enforce this is the proper name, jorb himself has stated that inkweed is only found on Grassland, Heath, and Moor.

It is possible to terraform grassland tiles into Moors by plowing them and leaving them fallow for an undetermined period of time.

Although flocks of chicken and herds of Mouflon and Auroch appear on Grassland and Heath as well as Moor, Moor seems to have the highest animal spawn rate and so are the best hunting grounds for these animals.

A wooden plow is an object used to plow a field. When a player right clicks a plow, he assume control of the plow with the player moving behind it. Using a wooden plow uses considerably less stamina than Landscape &gt; Plow Field. The wooden plow is one of the few items that can be moved without picking it up (although you can pick it up).
Build &gt; Tools &gt; Wooden Plow

How to Use
After right clicking the plow, left click an area to move the plow towards that area. Square of the ploughed tile does not play a role. Plow ploughs every tile it leaves. However it cannot traverse through paved ground. To stop ploughing, right click anywhere on the screen.

Ploughing does not damage any crops under the terrain tile. Any plowed tiles will eventually revert to the tile it was before.

Tips
*Plows only change a tile when they leave it, so if planning on plowing a large area it is more efficient (although time consuming for the player) to zig-zag through two rows at a time instead of just straight through one row

|skillreq = Lumberjacking
|objectsreq = requires::Soil x4, Tree Seed*, requires::Water (1.0 litres)
}}

Tree is a generic term which can refer to any of the following: . Also see the Tree category.

How to Acquire
To grow a tree, one needs a treeplanter's pot, a herbalist table, water, soil x4, and a seed of the tree you wish to plant. Place the soil, water, and seed into the pot, and the pot on the table. After approximately 1.5 hours (dependant on nature-industry slider), the tree will either sprout or die. If it is dead, all you can do is empty the pot and start over. If it has sprouted, you will have approximately eight hours to plant it before it dies. Take the pot, find a spot of grassland or forest where you wish to plant it, and right click on the spot while holding the pot to get the option to plant it. The tree will steadily increase in quality while it grows until it hits maturity and thus its maximum quality.

*All products of the tree are of the same quality at a given point in time (branches, logs, seeds, etc.)
*It is recommended to give the tree a 5x5 space around it to completely grow. If anything with a hitbox (anything that stops you if you run into it) is within the space, the tree's growth will be stunted. This excludes pavement, water, and most crops.

*Trees grow faster if their roots are upon its native terrain. For example, a fir tree will grow faster than an oak tree in the coniferous forest while the oak tree will grow faster than the fir tree in broadleaf. Also note that Broadleaf and Coniferous forests look the same even if they are different forest terrains.

*While growing, trees may transform nearby tiles into its native terrain. Where and how frequently this occurs is random.

Ways to Improve the Quality of a Tree
*High quality Herbalist Table: You will need high quality source lumber and fibers to craft a good quality Herbalist Table
*High quality Treeplanter's Pot: Dexterity, along with the quality of clay, seems to play a role in the quality of ceramic goods
*High quality water: No skills needed
*High quality soil:&nbsp;No skills needed
*High quality seed: No skills needed (but depends on the quality of the tree from which you took it)
*Nature vs Industry: Having a strong Nature personal belief will both increase the success of trees living and decrease the amount of time it takes for a planted tree to germinate on the herbalist table.

Approximate tree quality formula:
((qPot + qSoil + qWater + qTable)/4 + qSeed)/2 + {-2, +5}

Candleberries can be found in swamps. They may exclusively appear in one of the swamp types (the greenish-blue type with Willow Trees but no foliage), but this needs confirmation.

If you happen across one, and have the foraging skill, you can harvest it. There is no known way to purposely produce Candleberries, so they can only be found by chance and by increasing exploration and perception skills. The lowest reported Perception * Exploration score to spot Candleberries has been 160 (16 exp, 10 per).

The only product that utilizes Candleberries is Candleberry wax.
