Foraging gives you the ability to find and gather wild growing herbs, mushrooms, roots and flowers, usable for a wide variety of purposes, beyond their obvious utility in medicine and cuisine.

Lawton:

Curiosity is a mechanic, introduced in World 5, that allows a hearthling to develop Learning Points. It is implemented by studying peculiar objects either found or created in the game.
The Study Interface, found by pressing the second button on the character window, is where curiosities can be placed for study.
You can't study more than one curiosity of each type at the same time, but you can restudy the same curiosity as many times as you want.
The sum Mental Weight of your curiosities can't exceed your Attention Limit, which is equal to your base Intelligence.
The quality of the curiosity is known to have an effect on the total LP gained. The exact formula is unknown for the moment.

Do note that not all curiosities are created equal. Cat Gold for instance has a very long study time, but contrary to what was first thought it also has a low LP gain. The concept is that as the int of a character rises, you will have attention to spare so that you can also study the lesser curiosities on top of the better ones. Unless of course you're rich enough to have access to the best ones constantly that is. And since quality effects the potency of a curiosity, as the world becomes established and item qualities begin to rise some items may gain popularity due to this mechanism.

An example of the quality issue is the cone cow versus dandelion. The dandelion takes x2 as long for the same base LP gain. But, to counter for this you can find higher than quality 10 dandelions quite easily, where it takes a fair amount of effort to get higher than quality 10 cone cows (planting and growing high Q trees).

Base LP should be given for the Curiosity at 10ql and for a learning ability of 100%.

Lawton: /* Foraged/Found Curiosity Table */

<h2>Important Note</h2>
On Sunday, January 9th, Jorb announced on the forum (link) that a recent change had introduced data corruption to the current database for World 3. It was determined that the only satisfactory fix was a reset of the world. It was announced that within 36-48 hours a complete wipe and reset would occur, starting what will be known as World 4. At that time, all characters will be reset, and all players will need to make new characters. Due to the short notice and bug, no major gameplay, mechanics, or ruleset changes are expected.

World 4 is now open!
Apple cores are used to plant more seed of::apple trees by placing them in a filled Treeplanter's Pot.
They can also be used as animal fodder.

How to Acquire
Take an apple from an apple tree. You get one after eating the apple.

Ordinery wild apple trees are q10. If you find a tree with apples that are below q10 or above q10 it is not wild. Someone planted it.

It is not considered polite to chop down apple trees becuase they keep new players from starving.

Domesticated animals gain food from two sources:

*1) The food trough: Any Seeds, Apples, Apple Cores, Chantrelles, Carrots, Pumpkin Flesh, Giant Pumpkin, Peapod, Straw, Poppy Flower, Beetroot and Beetroot Leaves go into the food trough.
*2) Moor, heath and grassland tiles. These always count as a food unit of quality level 10.

A Giant Pumpkin counts as the sum of its parts when thrown into a trough, meaning that one giant pumpkin adds as much fodder as 16 seeds.

If the animals are inside the radius of the trough, they will eat from the trough before feeding on the grassland. The quality of the fodder from the trough is the average seed quality placed inside the trough. For example, if you placed a quality 5, 12, and 16, the quality of the fodder will be 11. The trough will hold a maximum of 200 unit of fodder.
In-Game Text
"High and low, up above and down below. The forest is a wild larder, and the heath an untamed apothecary, for those who know where to look.

Foraging gives you the ability to find and gather wild growing herbs, mushrooms, roots and flowers, usable for a wide variety of purposes, beyond their obvious utility in medicine and cuisine. Perception and Exploration are key values when looking for anything hard to find, and a well trained Survival skill will ensure that you harvest herbs with good results.

Notes
*The frequency of finding herbs is based on the multiplication of perception and exploration skill (commonly called Per * Exp).
*The quality of the herbs is based on the soil it is on capped by survival skill.
*There is a base value to start spotting foragable goods. Higher stats will increase the spotting chance, until reaching 4 times the base value.
Carts are used to easily move up to four lifted objects with the exception of the Rowboat. A pulled cart will move at crawl speed over Forest Terrains, walk speed over Mudflat, Grassland, Cave, and Mine terrains, and run speed over Paved Ground. If a pulled cart runs into another stationary object, the puller will be released from the cart and will then need to select to pull the cart again. Please note that carts cannot carry individual inventory items unless you put them in a liftable container first, and then load the container into the cart. If you run over a rabbit with a cart it will die and leave no materials. Carts can be built in mines, but they cannot move through mine or cave entrances.

Usage
When the cart is unloaded, the only context option when right clicking the cart is to Pull Cart. Once pulling, your character may leave the cart in one of two ways; run into another object, or right click and choose Leave Cart.

To load the cart, use the Lift skill and lift the object in question and then right click the cart. Your character will walk towards the cart, and you will be given the option to select one of four slots within which to place your lifted object once you reach it. The cart graphic will change to show a covered bundle being hauled around in it to indicate that there is now something inside it. The graphic will not change from the amount of load, just whether it is loaded or unloaded.

To unload a cart, right click the cart while not pulling it and choose Open Cart. The cart's load window open again, and simply left click the slot to transfer from the cart to your Lift skill.

You can also use the cart to kill small animals like a rabbit by driving over them.
<h2>Server being offline</h2>(Unconfirmed)
Several notices on forums have been asking if the server is offline, and none of the computers in my house, nor my mobile cellphone can enter the website either (which they could about an hour ago).
This post is solely temporarily, until the server is back up. Just letting you know you're not the only one.
(If you CAN log in, please modify this post saying so)

Some players can log in and some can not. The reason for this is unknown. No players appear to have minimaps.

I am able to log in with little lag. I can only do about 10 "actions" before Gilbertus Client receives a handshake error. The server logs me off, it is not a crash as I can log back in.

I am able to log in with Gilbertus, no connection problems (aside from the minimap). It's so lonely.

Any known fixes, please post asap :)
(And to those loners out there, be nice and don't steal from villages whilest they can't log in)

KipperDipper speaking here, 10:35PM GMT (London) time
working fine for me. no-one else on my kinlist is online but although the website is down, I'm getting somewhat reliable gameplay *works fine for 10 minutes, freeze, restarting client fixes problem*.

I can conect too but after that the Gilbertus client crashes. The command window show this message (I put in in pastebin.com -> ). (other thing, when i craft a pipe the item only show an interrogant)

Yes, I'm getting the ? too.
I also just crashed after having opened a crate (to see if items still showed as ?)

Kalacia speaking here, 23:24 GMT
Sever appears to be ok for me after a little hickup, website is still down at this current time. Up untill a few moments ago i would be able to login for a few seconds maybe a little longer before client crash with the command window from Gilbertus showing java errors to a number of codeing areas. Main error i am having seems to be attempting to resolve to or access www.havenandhearth.com/res to get the texture for the elm tree.

23:52 GMT

Random disconnects appear to be happening without client errors, normal login attempts provide "user already logged in" error, restarting client appears to resolve issue untill next disconnection. Sizeable time between disconnects, minor annoyance... dont try and kill animals

Rumor has it there was another "data corruption bug," which is just an excuse for Jorb/Loftar to do another wipe and swap to World 5, now that they have their LP replacement finalized.

Deathscreton speaking here. 6:29 PM 1/22/2011
Using Gilbertus' client, I can authenticate my log in, but cannot connect to the server. Not sure what's going on. No crash. Just can't connect.

=============

Kipper again. Still playing, more reliable then before now. still recommend however that if you can get online: do not try to attack or tame anything. players or animals.

=============

Deathscreton once more. I feel that there may be varying versions of the Gilbertus client around on the web. If one of the above users would so kindly post where they received their copy of the client, this would help avoid any further errors and bottle neck what issues people are having.

=============

Was able to play perfectly fine until I purchased the sericulture skill, at which point my client crashed from not being able to find the image for a silk filament (which I have not seen in game yet). Therefore, I would assume that the server holding the resources for the game is down, so if you need to download any resources the the client crashes from being unable to do so. If you can log in, don't buy any skills that let you craft items you haven't seen before, and if you can't log in, then you need to wait for the server to come back up.

Danno here, 7:22 PM GMT-6 (Saskatchewan doesn't do DST, so I dunno if that might actually be GMT-7 for the rest of you)
The official client doesn't want to work for me. The process "javaw.exe" keeps stacking in my task manager with every failure. The game was working for me earlier today, probably around 5 hours ago. I was playing while the website was down, but I eventually got disconnected. I'll see if restarting my computer helps maybe.<br />
The 32bit Gilbertus client I downloaded sometime during world 3 allowed me to login my account, but it crashed when I tried to select a character. I'm guessing I should get an updated version, though.
i played eariler when the website crashed, didn't get kicked but did stop playing. come back, no success getting the website to load, keep getting conflicting reasons when i diagnosis. also, fixed the grief (which looked russian or a similar language)

it just started to work again! --Vikingdragons 19:35, 22 January 2011 (CST) ...and it crashed...--Vikingdragons 20:44, 22 January 2011 (CST)

Any known fixes, please post asap :)

Attributes affect many aspects of your character, and are increased by gaining Food Event Points&nbsp;(FEPs).&nbsp; See the FEP Table for a list of all foods and their FEPs.

Low-tier and High-tier food refers to the ease of acquiring such foods, rather than the FEPs they provide. Low Tier foods are those available to players without access to clay or metal.
Strength
*Affects damage inflicted by melee weapons or unarmed attacks.
*Affects your ability to destroy objects, by (Adventuring -&gt; Destroy) or using a Battering Ram. Stone axe adds 1 damage and a Pickaxe adds 2 damage. Your damage is calculated by sqrt(Strength).
*In conjunction with Smithing, affects the quality of objects crafted with Metal Working and Steelmaking.

Example low-tier Strength food: Roasted Boar Meat, Pumpkin Flesh
* Decrease enemy minimum ranged damage against their perception
* Having higher agility than your opponent decreases your attack cooldowns in close combat, and increases the opponents attack cooldowns by the same amount.

Example low-tier Agility foods: Roasted Rabbit Meat
* In conjunction with Exploration, determines the visibility of foragible objects and the detection of criminal Scents by Ranging.
* Affects the quality of unbaked goods: dough is soft-capped by sqrt(Per * Cooking).
* Increases your minimum ranged damage, lowered by enemy's agility.
