The Stack Furnace is a primitive smelter that can smelt soft metals. (copper, tin, gold, and silver, but not iron.) It can be fueled with both coal '''and even wood''' if you so choose, as it uses bellows to heat itself past the limits of average wood fires.

It has a 3x6 sized inventory inside, which can hold 18 ores. Fuel it with 15-30 branches or 3-6 blocks of wood, and light it. It will smelt the ores inside slowly, however, if you right-click the bellows your Hearthling will work them for a few moments, consuming large amounts of stamina. Afterward, the fires within the furnace will burn vigorously for a while, increasing the speed of smelting significantly for about 27 real-life minutes, or 50% of the smelting time.

If [[Chalcopyrite]] is smelted, it cannot smelt to iron, only copper. Any ores which would have smelted to iron become slag. As such, you should take care of using too much chalcopyrite, as every piece smelted is permanently wasting iron.

To note, the standard [[Ore Smelter]] now requires 3 bars of Hard Metal. As such, the only way to build one, (short from asking for or [[Theft|borrowing]] some from friends or neighbors) is to first build a Stack Furnace and smelt Cassiterite and Chalcopyrite to make copper and tin, and then alloy some bronze from them.
''I suspect you might be misunderstanding the bellows. You don't need to be constantly blowing them. Once you do it, the higher speed will maintain itself for a fairly long time, which will be visible by the extra flames spouting from the opening.''[http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=70185]

*Cellars give a great deal more space for storage inside.
*They also protect items inside from the decay usually encountered outside.
*Cellars can also be used to make [[Cheese]] when a [[Cheese Rack]] is placed inside of it.
*Only one cellar entrance can be created per building.

==How to Acquire==

You can only build a cellar on the ground floor in a house such as a [[Log Cabin]], [[Timber House]], [[Stonestead]] or a [[Stone Mansion]]. You must have [[Locks & Bolts]] and have [[Discovery|discovered]] the necessary ingredients to do this.

Enter your house, and use:
{{K|B}}uild &gt; {{K|B}}uildings & Construction &gt; Construct C{{K|e}}llar

Choose a location for the cellar door to create the signpost. You can stand on a cellar door, and place containers and other objects upon it, but it cannot be moved once built.

Once you have completed the construction, equip a [[Pickaxe]] and right click on the newly-constructed cellar door to remove a [[boulder]]. Once all boulders are removed from the cellar, it may be entered and used.

The skill [[Locks & Bolts]] is required only for the construction of the cellar, players without the skill are able to remove the boulders.

*The Log Cabin requires 16 boulders to be removed and produces a 6x4 cellar.
*The Timber House requires 24 boulders to be removed and produces a 9x6 cellar.
*The Stone Mansion requires 48 boulders to be removed and produces a 12x8 cellar.
*The Stonestead requires 24 boulders to be removed and produces a 7x8 cellar.
*The Stone Tower requires 56 boulders to be removed and produces a 14x14 cellar.
*The Great Hall requires 96 boulders to be removed and produces a 14x14 cellar.
*The Windmill requires 40 boulders to be removed and produces a 8x8 cellar.

All cellars have two squares which are effectively unusable: the staircase which is always in the upper left corner of the cellar and the square directly in front of it.

The color scheme of the doorway is the most used board and the outlining square is the block. Both use the inner color scheme, not the bark. It does not use a secondary board/block at all. The handle relies on the metal.

== Stone Base Hardness ==
thought i was gonna get this finished before the reset but now i don't think i'll have the time. this is what i have so far. from hardest to softest:<br>
(this general order was constructed by comparing veins immediately next to each other to compensate for hardness nodes)

quartz > basalt = granite > porphyry > flint = ochre = bloodstone = horn silver = galena > schist > feldspar > gneiss = marble > dolomite > black coal
granite > ? > cassiterite > ? > feldspar
seems like all(?) ores might be equally hard.

My understanding is that hardness is determined by nodes independent from stone type but realistically other types of stone would be much harder. Also I think all Black Coal I've ran into has been quite soft.

-[[User:Vatas|Vatas]] 01:22:18, 11 February 2016 (EST)

:It's both, there are hardness nodes but each stone type also has an inherent hardness which is compounded. there are many quartz deposits on -5 that i can't mine, but i can mine almost everything else. post by jorb about it: [http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=41453&p=547289&hilit=hardness#p547289 here].
cca. what level of mining ability is required to mine different levels from 1-5? Because I can mine some rock at l2 in 3 ticks but some is "You cannot even scratch the rock" with q24 pick and 66str.

After crafting the Pyrite Spark, it will attach to your cursor and burn up quickly, and if you drop it, it will disappear, so put fuel in the fireplace or furnace you want to light and stand close to it. Use the recipe and wait, this takes lee time and stamina than [[Firebrand]]. When it's done you will hear it ignite, now quickly right click the unlit object and wait until it lights up, this also takes a little time.
{{GM|$Build|$Vehicles & Movables|$Battering Ram}}
[[Category:Special Structures]]

A battering ram can break down walls, homes, or just scare the hell out of your neighbours with your military might.

After building a battering ram, it takes 4 real life hours for the glue to dry and make it usable. After repairs, it takes 2 hours instead of four to be used again.

==How to use==

To use the battering ram, right-click it and select "Move". Your cursor will change to a wrecking chain: [[File:Battering Ram Icon.png]]. You can now push the ram to where you click, so you can take it to the wall or building you wish to demolish. Simply moving it close to the target isn't enough; you have to click on the target with the weird cursor. Next, release your grip on the ram, right-click it again, and now you should also have the "Use" option available.

A battering ram can only be pushed for a small distance before breaking down (about 20-25 tiles), so make sure to build it close to the wall you wish to attack. If your strength is too low and you don't have people to help you, a [[Bear Cape]] can make for a nice boost.

==Health==

The ram has a maximum health pool of 1250. Once this hits 500 the ram cannot be moved or used in any way and needs to be repaired.

Health is lowered by moving around, or using it to ram an object.
*Movement
**2.5 damage per map pixel, giving a max range of 300 pixels.
**Place rams near the intended target to save as much health as possible.

*Ramming
**7.5 damage per hit '''to itself''', seperate from the damage dealt '''to the target''' (this is the damage number and not the animation).
**Each hit to itself is always the same regardless of damage dealt.

Health increases only with [[Brimstone]]
*Brimstone is the most common special resource and spawns daily at gysers.
**Decays over the course of a few days.
**Bone glue is no longer used to repair.

*Two pieces of brimstone are needed to fully repair from 500hp (exact hp repaired per stone unknown).
**The repair cycle is started as soon as brimstone is used to repair.
**Each cycle takes two hours and the ram is unuseable for the duration.

==Damage==

'''CAUTION:''' This section refers to older mechanics that may or may not reflect the new shield mechanics.

The damage you deal while destroying is the square root of your strength.
A ram adds a static 20 damage and allows up to 4 people to combine their damage.

'''Pickaxe or Sledgehammer does ''not'' help while using a battering ram.'''

<math>{Damage}=(\sqrt {strength})+(\sqrt {strength})+(\sqrt {strength})+(\sqrt {strength})+20-{Soak}</math>

Say we have 4 people attacking a [[palisade]], one has 64 strength, the others have 124 strength. The damage you deal to the wall is calculate as follows:

<math>38=(\sqrt 64)+(\sqrt 124)+(\sqrt 124)+(\sqrt 124)+20-25</math>

*Splash damage: When taking down a wall section, either trough ramming or bashing, the number of wall sections that might fall down is random. From the minimum of only the targeted wall section, to multiple adjacent sections of the wall, to the entire wall. Only walls of the same soak are affected.

==Extrapolations==

With the above information we can put together a set of advice for the effective use of rams.

Health determines the maximum damage the ram can do each cycle.
*Skimping out and using only one brimstone means you might not be able to do enough damage before it gives out.

The ram is only useful when multiple high strength characters use it at the same time.
*The damage to itself is the same regardless, so each hit should have as much power behind it as possible.

Movement reduces damage effectiveness.
*A ram '''can''' move, but only at a significant cost to its potential damage per cycle. Don't rely on one ram to attack multiple targets.

Rams can be considered a lower tier than catapults in dealing damage.
*A ram is advantageous when brimstone is in low supply.

==Notes==

* Update [http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=48672&sid=e464e1a0345a2c1d56a728098d878ac0 "Rekt!-ing Ball"] changed Battering Ram statistics

The quality of the blocks is based on the quality of the [[tree]] or [[bush]]. The quality of your [[Stone Axe|axe]] has no effect.

==How to Acquire==
Blocks of wood are produced by chopping either a [[log]] or [[bush]] with an axe, or by destroying a [[stump]]. Digging up stumps is considerably faster with a [[Shovel|shovel]], especially a [[Metal Shovel|metal shovel]].

Removing a stump provides 4 blocks, while the amount of blocks received from logs and chopping bushes varies by type (not all bushes give blocks, see the [[Bush]] page). A [[Metal Axe]] produces more blocks than a [[Stone Axe]], giving 50 blocks per [[Spruce Tree|spruce]] log.

==Block of Wood Products==

Right-clicking a block and select the "Split" option will split the blocks into 5 [[branch]]es each. Branch quality obtained by splitting block of wood depend on the log and axe used, using the following formula:

[math]\frac{q_{log}+q_{axe}}{2}[/math]

==Tips==
*As blocks of wood have a vast variety of uses such as [[fuel]], but if you have got high qualities axe it is better to split them to branches to gain better qualities fuel.
*Bushes grow fast and are easy to chop, making them ideal for getting quality blocks quickly.

==Notes==
*Block of Mirkwood is obtained from chopping [[Old Trunk|Old Trunks]] or digging up [[Old Stump|Old Stumps]], both often found in the [[swamp]]. As they can't be grown, there is currently no known way of getting more of these.

*Smoking [[Cured Hemp Bud]]s produces the "In The Fog" buff. The longer the character smokes, the more potent the buff is (whether quality affects duration or effect is unknown). "In The Fog" increases [[FEP]] gain from foods and lasts for aproximatly 40 minutes after the pipe stops smoking.
}}

[[Category:Tree]]

Tree is a generic term which can refer to any of the following: {{#ask: [[Category:Tree]]}}. Also see the [[:Category:Tree|Tree category]].
__TOC__

== How to Acquire ==
To grow a tree, one needs a [[Treeplanter's Pot]], an [[Herbalist Table]], [[Water]] 1 Liter, [[Soil]] x4, and a seed of the tree you wish to plant. Place the Soil, Water, and seed into the pot, and the pot on the table. After 1 hour and 20 minutes (dependent on [[Personal Beliefs|Nature/Industry]] slider), the tree will either sprout or die. If it is dead, all you can do is empty the pot and start over. If it has sprouted, you will have approximately eight hours to plant it before it dies. Take the pot, find a spot of grassland or forest where you wish to plant it, and right click on the spot while holding the pot to get the option to plant it. The tree will steadily increase in quality while it grows until it hits maturity and thus its maximum quality.

*All products of the tree are of the same quality at a given point in time (branches, logs, seeds, etc.)
*It is recommended to give the tree a 5x5 space around it to completely grow. If anything with a hitbox (anything that stops you if you run into it) is within the space, the tree's growth will be stunted. This excludes pavement, water, and most crops.
*Trees grow faster if their roots are upon its native terrain. For example, a Fir Tree will grow faster than an Oak Tree in the Coniferous forest while the Oak Tree will grow faster than the Fir Tree in Broadleaf. Also note that Broadleaf and Coniferous forests look the same even if they are different forest terrains.
*At random time, a tile will change its type depending on type of trees nearby. Priority increases from "No Trees", to "Broadleaf", to "Coniferous".
*Base time of growing up to 5-th phase depends on the tree type. Growing from the 5-th phase to fully grown tree is random.
*A tree in the 5-th and 6-th phase of growth has the same quality. At phase 4 its at 80% of its final quality. And 60% at Phase 3.

== Ways to Improve the Quality of a Tree ==

*High quality [[Herbalist Table]]: You will need high quality source lumber and [[Plant Fibres]] to craft a high quality Herbalist Table.
*High quality [[Treeplanter's Pot]]: Quality is softcapped by [[Dexterity]] and dependent on the quality of the [[Clay]], [[Fuel]], and [[Kiln]] used.
*High quality [[Water]]: Water quality depends on the location at which you gather it.
*High quality [[Soil]]: Just as water, Soil quality is dependent on the location you gather it at. See [[Finding high quality water, clay, and soil]] for more information.
*High quality seed: Same quality as the tree of which it was taken. Therefore, planting the highest quality seeds from the trees you grow will increase average quality over time.
*Nature vs Industry: Having a strong Nature [[Personal Beliefs|Personal Belief]] will both increase the success of trees living and decrease the amount of time it takes for a planted tree to germinate on an Herbalist Table.
*[[Farming]] skill: The quality of the tree is [[Softcap|softcap]]ped by the Farming skill of the player who plants it.

Approximate tree quality formula: <math>\frac{_{q}Pot + _{q}Soil + _{q}Water + _{q}Table + _{q}Seed*4}{8} (-2, +5)</math>

== Tree Information ==
*Note: Bark, Branches and Seeds each regrow when trees enter a new phase of growth (up to the phase's quantity limit) as well as every 1-2 real time weeks.
*Note: Maturation time of last phase is random.
Pipes can be equipped in the alternate head slot. They can be filled with [[Cured Hemp Bud]]s or [[Tobacco]] and lit, causing the character's pipe to emit smoke for 5 minutes, as well as turning them into a small light source.

*Smoking [[Tobacco]] reduces [[Travel Weariness]] and gives the "Smoke & Fire" buff that temporarily increases [[Psyche]].
==How to Acquire==
To make a pipe, you need the [[pottery]] skill and 2 blocks of [[clay]]. Use the craft menu to mold the clay, and then fire the unburnt clay pipe in a [[kiln]]. You will need a minimum of 4 branches as fuel.

*Note that you need to [[Discovery|discover]] tobacco (cured hemp buds is not sufficient) as well as meet the other requirements to make a pipe.
==How to Use==

To use a pipe, first you will need cured hemp or tobacco. You will then need to right click the pipe with tobacco or cured hemp to fill the pipe. Once the pipe is full, equip it in your necklace slot and then right click and choose light.
There, it could be explained what the red and white bars are related to and what attributes are specific to each animal such as though all animals, male and female, have a milk quality, only the milk from a female cow is collectable. I suppose that milk quality on the other animals affects the "growth" of their young (or the young around them) and so the milk quality on the male is mostly just a breeding stat. --[[User:Deadguy60|Deadguy60]] 21:14, 23 May 2012 (EDT)

== Information Panel - Bars ==

The bars on the right side of the Information Panel seem to indicate Quality.

In my village we had one cow that stated a q325 for milk but was giving q106. after noting that the right bar stated ~30, I ran some calculations outside of the program and it came to be the exact quality that the milk we were getting was.

using this information, we believe that the left bar(red) indicates meat quality while the right bar(white) indicates Milk quality.

while Milk is not available to be taken from all animals, the young still feed from the females and that is the q of their feed until they mature and are eating "normal" feed.
Cattle may also be killed by foxes, so if a fox spawns in your pastureland be ready to protect your herd. {{Verify}}
== Milk Quantity ==
I tried milking my cow every 10 minutes and the milk was not respawning. At the 30 minute mark, still no milk. At the 60 minute mark I got 5.0 L of milk from a q50 milk quantity cow. Something is wrong with the milk quantity formula on this page. I'll do some further testing. ~ [[User:Phaen|Phaen]] 10:57, 16 June 2012 (EDT)
== Meat and Intestine Quality ==
I've noticed that cow/calf meat/intestine quality is softcapped by the reported quality of food eaten. Should this be mentioned on this page? Can anyone else confirm this is the case for meat/intestine quality?

Milk quality seems to unaffected by quality of food eaten.

Beeswax is required to craft [[candle|Candles]], [[Coiled Rope Hotpad]], [[Hardened Leather]] and [[Shewbread]].

==How to Acquire==
Beeswax is acquired by right clicking on a [[Bee Hive]] and selecting 'harvest wax'. While beehives can contain multiple units of beeswax, if a bee hive has no beeswax, the option will not appear.

==Notes==
Both Beeswax and [[Honey]] quality appears to be dependent on crop quality and the amount of growing crops within the hive's radius. A hive that sits for one high quality harvest and is then left without growing crops will give low quality wax and honey, while a bee hive that is permanently pollinating high-quality crops filling the entire radius will give far higher quality wax and honey.

==Observation by Minion0ne==
It seems that most of the wax i get out of my circles is approximately 1/3 the average crop quality. With carrots ranging from 20 to 45, i get about Quality 11 to 12 wax.
