After building a Dovecote, wild Rock Doves will begin flocking to it so long as it is filled with fodder and water. If a Rock Dove Egg hatches inside of the Dovecote, it will then hatch into a Domesticated Rock Dove, which you can then place into your Birdhouse and Homestead it. Once the bird is Homesteaded to a Birdhouse, it will always return to said structure once release. Doves will not reproduce inside of a Birdhouse.

Attending to occupied Dovecotes for prolonged periods of time may incur HHP damage in the form of Bird Lung, which incurs a -5AGI/CON penalty and slowly heals over time.

Uses for Homesteaded Doves
After being homesteaded to a Birdhouse. Domesticated Doves may be given a single, one-tile sized, item to carry. Allowing a Hearthling to transport an item easily between any location and the Birdhouse which the dove is currently Homesteaded to.

You can use a Domesticated Dove to carry home your Slave Key after you exit your base. This way you can travel around not carrying keys and feeling more secure, and hearth back once finished.

Allowed items include:
* keyring with or without keys.
* leather purse with or without coins.
* Toolbelt with or without tools.
** Do note that a belt that contains some tool can't be dropped in the players inventory. So a general container need to be used the retrieve non empty belts from the dove.

Excluded items:
* Any item that is bigger than a 1x1 inventory tile.<!-- repeat to complete this list -->
* Critter items like worms, snails or other doves.
* Stacks. (will take one item from a dropped stack.)

A homesteaded dove that is carrying an item will immediately fly off to its birdhouse when released/dropped. But when its not carrying an item it will instead drop to the ground. (if left outside like that it will not return to its birdhouse. Probably eventually just de-spawns.)

Caring for your Birds
Rock Doves require feeding and watering and Birdhouses have space inside for this. To fill them, have fodder material (listed below) in your inventory, then lift it up with a left-click and right-click on the coop. This will fill the fodder bar a bit. You will not be able to recover any seed or plants used in this manner. Fodder and water each fill up their own meter inside the coop. As the doves eat, the amounts that will be diminished are proportionate to the number of doves contained therein.

See swill page for plants & food items that can be used as swill.

Birdhouses can hold a maximum of 30.00(L) of swill and 30.00(L) of water.

How to Acquire
A Birdhouse can be built, generally on a 1x1 paved area.

Tips
* There is a trick to filling a PAGENAME much more quickly than normal. Click to pick up a unit of food, then with it floating on your cursor, hold down the shift key and right click the trough. As long as you keep the shift key held down, another unit of food from your inventory will automatically be placed on your cursor, ready to right click again!
* <b>Warning:</b> Edible forageables, like for example, Candleberry or Bloated Bolete also count as fodder, so be careful when shift-right clicking as you will loose them.

* The PAGENAME can also be filled directly using a Wheelbarrow, Bucket, or Food Trough.

* Any fodder placed in PAGENAME will turn into generic Swill.

* Swill can be taken out by right-clicking Coop with Bucket, Barrel, or Trough and transferred freely between all of them.

* Water can be taken out of birdhouse with bucket or barrel if it has no swill in it. (or with a barrel with some water in it, while the coop is fully filled with water.)

Notes
* Flat ground: max elevation 3 units (0.3m).
* Can't be build on: Forest grounds, plowed fields, frozen water, (snow?<!--snow has some variations related to its undelying ground-->).
* Food (and water) quality don't matter for doves below the food quality. (quality of new born dove seem random, or probably based on local quality)
* Star-status of food also don't effects the doves, including new born doves. (which is a good thing)

Combat
Behaviour
Rarely aggressive, but are usually faster than a horse while walking and sometimes even faster when running.<br>
Take care when fighting mammoths - especially on horses, as after >70% openings they can use an ability similar to "Raw Hide!" and stun nearby horses. This can quickly cause you to get knocked down.<!--Will execute you if they KO you. (Disabled, see Talk page)-->

Strategy
Current (as of World 16.1) strategy involves not fighting the mammoth in a fair fight, but rather abusing the palisades being indestructible by mammoths.<br>

What you need is a claimed enclosed palisade in the mountain area. (As a precaution - wait at least 24h after building the palisade before trying to bring a mammoth inside, they may attempt to destroy it before it builds up sufficient soak strength.)<br>

The palisade needs to have a small (preferably rectangular) compartment with a gate and a single empty square without the palisade built there for luring the mammoth inside (see images for reference).<br>

<br>
Once the palisade is setup, grab yourself a horse and look around for a mammoth (never attempt luring a mammoth on foot unless it's literally next to your palisade) - if found, attack it and run straight into the compartment then wait for the mammoth to walk into it, once it's inside just run through the gap in the wall and after that you can try closing the gate behind it. (usually the gate can stay open, as even in peace mode the animal does not run through the gate - it does rarely happen though)<br>
IMPORTANT - Do not attempt to lure a mammoth inside with a character that has Rage unlocked, as it will make it impossible to run through the gates and you will have to either run away from the mammoth or use Quell the Beast to escape.<br>
If you have caught yourself a mammoth, you are free to attack it, but beware, as mammoths use a ranged attack called Trunk Gunk which hits through armor, and to protect yourself your Hearthling needs to be partially covered by the palisade segment.<br>
<br>
To safely fight the mammoth you should use any melee weapon with extra range such as Boar Spear, Giant Needle or B12 and position yourself outside its attack range.<br>
If you are experienced, want to learn how to or already do not have any issues positioning yourself perfectly to stop the animal from attacking you then feel free to use a sword.

In-Game Example(s)
Dead PAGENAME. Can be skinned for Fresh PAGENAME Hide.<br>

$Build

A big study desk with a 11x11 inventory grid in which you can store Curiosities. Curiosities stored in a study desk will replace items in your Study Screen as they are used up, creating an auto queue for Curiosities.

It is the largest but also most expensive study desk you can make, requiring Pearl Glue as well as Wood Polish (which requires Turpentine, which requires a Still, which thus gates the Grand Study Desk behind the ability to get Copper.)

Two cheaper study desks that lack the Grand's massive 11x11/121 slot inventory exist: the ordinary Study Desk which has 7x7/49 slots, and the Fine Study Desk which has 9x9/81 slots.

How to Use
Each character may only have one active Study Desk at a time. When you build A study desk, it will bind to your character. right clicking an unbound desk allows you to "take possession" of that desk.<br>

Anyone may take items from a bound study desk, and anyone may put items into a study desk while the owner is online.<br>

The study desk will prioritize replacing identical curiosities as they are used, but will accept different curiosities if none are present. In this fashion, if you are studying a cone cow, with a cone cow and a dandelion on your study desk, the queue of items would go cone cow->cone cow-> dandelion.

The study desk of a deceased character will be rendered "This study desk is not used.", as possession is not transferred through inheritance.

Be careful when clicking the study desk of an other (friendly) hearthling. As its easy to miss-click "take possession" instead of "open", which can have a significant negative study impact for the effected hearthling.

Notes:
* The study desk quits functioning, and becomes unbound after some time, if placed inside a vehicle (Rowboat, Cart, Leanto, etc.). Make sure to avoid storing it in these places while its in use.
* Study Desks have a quality when inspected but is unknown how/if this affects anything.
* When building a study desk. Its unconditionally set as the players currently owned study desk. (ie: breaking link with currently used study desk by player.)
* (some items don't have/show a related icon on the desk. like Whirling Snowflake.)

Note that unlike other creatures, narwhals never split - so you can't aggro them one by one.

You can Safespot them by luring them to the edge of Deep Ocean, they will not follow you onto Shallow Ocean terrain.

Narwhal's can swim through Deep Ocean and Deep water (Rivers)

In-Game Example(s)
Dead PAGENAME. Can be skinned for Fresh PAGENAME Hide.<br>

Adders are snakes, occasionally seen in certain Forests and common in Mountains. Their fangs carry potent venom, so keep a wide berth. Fighting them like other animals is almost pointless. (See Strategy section below.) Their fangs and skins can be made into useful equipment like a belt, boots, lacing, an amulet, and their fangs can make an antivenom if you do end up getting nommed on.

Combat
Behaviour
They are highly aggressive critters. They'll attack unprovoked.

Strategy
Adders can enter Shallow Water freely. (They used to be unable to do so. Out-of-date guides may tell you to simply flee into the water.)

Unlike other small creatures, adders cannot be trampled by Horses. They can be trampled by Carts, however, so drag a Cart with or without a Horse to kill them easily.

There's no real reason to try to fight them, just use the method above. If you for some reason want to or got attacked by one at an inopportune time, use a lot of yellow Sweeping defenses, as their yellow attack Serpent's Strike is what applies the venom. Keep your yellow opening low at all times or suffer the consequences.

Venom
Adder Bite wounds, increases in severity over time and come with a hefty -15 STR per wound. Eventually, the wound will start healing and dissipate. There is a chance that Nerve Damage occurs with adder bites, and it is speculated that it's either from the frequency or amount of adder bites a character has.

Snake Juice is an effective treatment.

Notes
*You can use a wild or tame horse to pull a cart around mountains and rack up many adders easily. There's still risk of drawing the ire of other mountain denizens, or simply having an unfortunate mishap with the adders themselves. You may want to use an "alt" character to collect snakes. Cart method does Not apply Survival hardcap.
*1x2 Fresh Adder Hides yields only 1x1 Adder Hides, making it less efficient as generic hide. However they have specific use in Adderfang Amulet and Snakeskin Belt.
*Adders go after small animals like rabbit or squirrel. Which can be used to get them off your tail. (Saw a snake getting killed by a Wood Grouse Cock, but don't know who started the fight)
*As of update Whitemetal Rain you can now be a Snake Eater and walk through the rain and feast on a tree frog.
*When crafting a log into blocks or boards, make sure the 2x2 area around the log is clear as the created blocks and boards are created on the ground. Being too close to a tree or other immovable structures may leave you with some inaccessible blocks or boards.
*When chopping down a tree, the produced tree logs will fall away from the lumberjack.
*Animals, such as Boars, Aurochs, and Mouflon, can damage logs that are blocking their path.
*Logs from non fully grown trees will give different amount of blocks/boards per log than normal. Usually less, but can be more too. RTree#Notes

How to Use
"A Scrying Ball, when placed on a Runed Dolmen, and infused with Scrying Juice, allows you to far-see the perpetrator of whichever crime made the Juice. Careful, lest the criminal gazes back."

-In-game description.

Scrying Juice is crafted using a scent left by a criminal you wish to scry.

It's recommended to build a Dolmen inside a house (cellar can add additional "dark shrine" -aesthetic), to prevent the scrying target from looking back and seeing hints that can allow them to locate your base.

Scrying Rules (direct quotes from Jorb)
When attempting to scry, a roll is made based upon the scryer's (Perception * Exploration) versus the perpetrators (Intelligence*Stealth) to determine if the scry is successful. If the ratio is below 0.5, the scryer has no chance of far-seeing the perpetrator. If the ratio is above 2.0, the scryer always succeeds.

A spectating eye is placed above the perpetrator during a successful scry. This eye can be discovered by anyone who sees the perpetrator, rolling the scryer's (Intelligence * Stealth * Psyche) versus the observer's (Perception * Exploration * Psyche) to determine if the spectating eye is discovered.

If the perpetrator discovers the spectating eye, he can right-click it, to far-see the Scryer back while the scry lasts.

"Scrying Juice" decays when the scent from which it was made would have.

Notes
Quality of the crafted Ball is Softcapped by Psyche and Stealth. It is unknown if the Ball quality has any effect.

The Giant Needle can be obtained from a Rat Dungeon and functions exactly identical to a Boar Spear. It requires two hands to use and allows you to use melee combat attacks that require Any Melee Weapon or Any Pointed Blade. This includes Quick Barrage, Full Circle and Sting, but not Chop, Cleave or Storm of Swords, for example.

Like the Boar Spear, it gives extra range to Melee Combat moves that utilize it, allowing you to "cheese" animals from outside their attack range using a Boat. This does require careful pre-positioning though, if you use a move out of range the character will move to collide with the target.

This is especially true for the boss of the Rat Dungeon, the Rat King, who often gets stuck in such a way he cannot move, and can easily be killed while taking no damage by simply using one of his own Giant Needles to attack him outside of his attack range.

Also like the Boar Spear, the Giant Needle can be thrown by using the Shoot! command while holding it. Do note this has a fair chance of breaking it, causing it to disappear. Should it survive it will be left lying on the ground.

How to Acquire
Within the dungeon are spools of Rat Fibre, which occasionally have a needle sticking out. Right click the needle to obtain one Giant Needle. You can often get three to six needles per dungeon. This can give you either ample ammunition to throw using Shoot! or a few simple weapons to gift/sell to people.

Quality
* Damage scales with strength and weapon quality using the following formula: <math>Damage = 80*\sqrt{\sqrt{Strength*{q}Needle}/10}</math>.
Lava is a resource that requires a container that can hold liquid and is used for crafting. If left in any container for 24 RL hours, it will turn into Lava Rock, if it cooled in a Barrel you need to break the container and it spawn a Lava Rock Boulder instead.

How to Acquire
Lava can be acquired from any Lava tile (left click on container and then right click on surface).

Can be filled in: Barrel, Bucket, Glass Jug (Note that only Barrels seem to have a (clear) way to be broken, to get the rock out.)

Can not be filled in: Wooden Cup, Leaf Cup, Birchbark Kuksa

Note: To get the lava discovery for a character, one needs to get some lava directly from source. Taking lava stored in other containers will not give the lava discovery.

Uses
Can be used as fuel for: Fireplace (1L), Kiln (3L),Oven (3L), Stack Furnace (3L), Clay Cauldron (1L), Crucible (0.5L)
Lava can light a fire without using any Lava.

Quality
Attributes
* Holds 20 liftable objects and 64 inventory items (same as a Cupboard). Rowboats and Cupboards must be empty before they can be loaded.

* Can travel with ease through both 3 and 2 tile wide palisade gates.

* If a Wagon Station is set as home, the Wagon can fast travel to it.

* Can follow road signs, but cannot fast travel along them.

* Kills small critters (rats, frogs, toads, adders, hedgehogs, moles, squirrels, rabbits and chickens) when running over them.

* Can carry four hearthlings - two in the front and two in the back.

* Speed with Cattle - 4.5 tiles per second, with Horses - 7.7 tiles per second
* Can be encamped, preventing any players from destroying them unless using siege weapons. Encampment prevents building siege weapons in the near vicinity of the wagon but does not prevent moving them into that vicinity after being built.

General advice
Grab a rope on your cursor and right click a draft animal. Now right click the Wagon with the rope. (You can put the rope in your inventory between the steps if animal is far away from Wagon, right clicking the rope gives you option "pull" to make animal try to come closer to you if needed.)

Passengers who log out will generally remain in the wagon when they log back in. This is useful for crossing rivers since a raft only carries one person and an empty wagon. The passengers can log out before the crossing and log back in on the other side after the driver operates the raft.

Traveling with a wagon trough forests can be a tricky and relatively slow process, as the wagon can get easily get stuck against some objects. If a full U-turn is needed, it's best to un-leash the draft animal, move it to the back of the wagon, and re-leash it.

Notes
* Characters joining the wagon will displace any logged-out character on the same seat.

* Wagon seat order is always the same. (seat related logged-out characters are ignored here)

* Passengers can Travel to Hearth Fire (leaving the Wagon behind).
* Wagons are unable to enter or exit mines.

PAGENAMEs are mining support structures which prevent cave-ins in a thirty tile radius.
PAGENAMEs are the last tier of Mining support/columns, below Stone Columns:
*Mine Support: 9 Tile Radius
*Stone Column: 11 Tile Radius
*Mine Beam: 13 Tile Radius
*Monumental Column: 30 Tile Radius

Note: Mined tiles will still show dust animation (see Mining page) when under the radius of the support, to warn of cave-in tiles, but caveins won't occur under support.

PAGENAME takes damage every time it prevents a cave-in. If not taken care of, this can eventually result in destruction of the PAGENAME which triggers a massive cave-in.

For a mine support structure to prevent a cave-in, it must touch the center of the tile:
+Quoted from Loftar
<SuperDaddy> Does it count if the radius is touching part of the tile?<br>
<loftar> Well, to be precise, it needs to touch the exact center of the tile.<br>
This means tiles covered by the column radius just slightly aren't supported.

Caution: whenever any mine support is removed, all tiles under it are checked for unstable mine tiles. If there are unstable tiles within range, which are now, with the removal of the mine support, unsupported, the removal will cause a cave in. This means that you can now tear down mine supports without cave ins, if you still have proper support around it
{{Game"

Gilding is the process in which one adds certain skill/attribute bonuses to a piece of gildable clothing. Nearly all types of clothing, and even some pieces of armor, can be gilded. Every gildable piece of equipment has one guaranteed gilding slot. Equipment can then receive an additional gilding slot, determined at random.

When a piece of equipment has a free slot for gilding, "Gildable" will show up in the item's tool-tip. Equipment can be gilded by left clicking the gilding item, then right-clicking a gildable piece of equipment. The option to gild will appear which must be clicked to undertake said process, which will then by followed by a chance for an additional Gilding Slot.

Additional Gilding Slots
Below are methods and items that may be used to open up an additional gilding slot for an article of clothing or equipment.

* Recycling

If you have two articles of equipment that are identical (for example, two Sprucecaps with Taproot Lacing), you can combine these two items and receive either a Sprucecap with no gilding, or a Sprucecap with an extra Gilding Slot. The qualities of the used items will be averaged out once combined.

* Garment Needle

May be found in Dungeons.

* Gilding Song

Available after learning Deep Artifice.

Gilding Attributes
All pieces of gildable equipment and gilding items have one or more attributes. When gilding, combining items with the same attribute increases the chance for additional slots while gilding. Some Gildable Objects have multiple attributes, such as the Bear Cape which features Strength and Survival. Your own personal level for those attributes also heavily impacts the chance for additional slots being granted.

To determine the exact range, simply multiply the low end values together of the gilding and the item to be gilded and the high end values together. Be sure to multiply them together as decimals, 0.05 x 0.45, not 5 x 45. This gives a base range. Nettle Pants (Survival, 5%-25%) and Taproot Lacing (Survival, 45%-95%) gives a base range of 2.25% to 23.75%.

Gilding two pieces of equipment that have no matching attributes will result in the lowest possible gild chance, regardless of your attributes. Trying to gild a Bark Reinforcement (survival 50%-90%) to a Lawspeaker's Hat (charisma 20%-30%) will always have a 10% gild chance ( 50% * 20% ). The exact formula for how much your attribute increases the chance among the range, but rough estimates put the maximum gilding chance at attribute level 400.

Gilding bonuses increase as the quality increases, according to <math>\sqrt {_{q}Item / 10} * q10Bonus</math> rounded to the closest whole number. For instance, a Spun Gluethread at q34 has a bonus of +5.53 Agility, which is rounded to +6 Agility. The quality of the gilding item is soft-capped by the piece of equipment you are gilding it to. Gilding a high quality gilding item onto a low quality piece of equipment may result in the bonuses being lowered.
