SwordMage: Undo revision 11875 by 193.126.192.127 (talk) Changing a literal developer quote without removing the attribution is bad form.

Traveling via teleporting or [[crossroads]] gives travel weariness, which can be removed by '''drinking alcoholic beverages''' or '''sleeping in a bed'''. Sleeping logs you out, and removes some weariness over time, while you're logged out. The amount of weariness lost depends on bed type, bed quality and time logged out.

==How Travel Weariness Works==
When your Travel Weariness "buff" hits 100%, you won't be able to quick travel, quite simply. The one exception is that you can always quick travel to your Hearthfire, although it will still cost travel weariness. The amount of weariness you can take is based on agility. Higher agility means you'll be able to travel farther. The amount of weariness gained when traveling is determined, non-linearly, by distance. Traveling the same distance with many small hops is preferable to one or a few large hops.

You can still choose to log in at your Hearthfire, but it will cost Travel Weariness, calculated from your last position in game.

==Quoting Loftar==
"With the original n00bish 10 [[:Attributes#Agility|Agility]], you'll be able to travel about half a supergrid in one hop. The cost incurred by one hop scales as O(n^{3/2}), and the amount of weariness a character can handle scales linearly with agility."

==Solutions==
Some helpful things to reduce your travel weariness are:

*[[Spruce Bough Bed]]
*[[Sturdy Bed]]
*[[Straw Bed]]

Bears are the considered the toughest and most vicious animals in the game. Bears will, like [[Boar]]s, attack you unprovoked at and above level 5. A level 10 bear will hit for approximately 800 HP. They will not attack you while you are unconscious.

Also, if a bear is trapped, it will destroy lesser wooden items to if it has a path to you rendering most conventional construction sign traps useless.

== Combat Behavior ==

The bear is going to start off with using a move that gives it 6 (!) initiative and a boost move before attacking you with either a swipe or a bite (the most dangerous of the two). Then it will fill up its attack and defense like most other animals. Fortunately it does not try to gain advantage like the boar or auroch does.

== How to fight it ==

Melee: Bears can take off a large chunk of defense, if not outright hurt you. You will need combat stats of around 150 to combat against a lvl X bear melee. If not, then you are best to fight against it at a range where it cannot hit you. You want to opt for slide if your defense starts to drop, especially after an attempted bite. Otherwise you can use dash or even slide to keep your defense high while gaining initiative.

If your combat skill is not high enough, then use range to shoot it where it cannot reach you or simply avoid it.

Ranged: The best way to kill bear with ranged weapon it's:

# Build a boat and start searching for bears
# After finding block him with signs(actually now bears can destroy them)
# You surely will need a lot of stones if you using sling,at 40MM with 40 sling it takes ~ half of inventory to kill bear(insist of missing)
# When he start running just leave boat and he probably return to you even if icon show that he trying to stop battle,otherwise stop battle with him and just shoot again,you'll lose some lp (reward for killing) but sure wouldnt lose him.
# Just kill him

Sometimes when bear running to you in "stop battle mod" he can stop right near your boat if you sitting in it,that a lot of bugs so just use your fantasy.
==Notes==
*The claim starts of as a 4x4 square around the totem. You can expand your claim at 50 [[LP]] {{Verify}} per square. This is done by increasing the dimensions of the claim; you cannot add individual squares.

*You may only own one claim, but you can at any time declaim your area. This will refund your LP used and allow you to place a new claim. You do not need to repurchase the Yeomanry skill.
*The person who finishes building the claim owns it, regardless of whether they have Yeomanry or not.
*Claim stakes do NOT decay. They also can NOT be destroyed with the vandalism skill. You have to resort to trespassing and theft to get something useful from a forsaken claim.
*As a general suggestion, declaim land before leaving the game for extended periods of time - you get the LP back, the claim stake is cheap to rebuild, and most of the objects on your claim will have decayed and might as well be of use to others.

Silkworms are hatched from [[Silkworm Egg]]s by placing the eggs on an [[Herbalist Table]] for 24 in-game (8 real life) hours. Once hatched, the worms need to feed as described below, so it is important to move them into a container with food within 24(8) hours (best within 12(4) hours).

Once you have hatched your [[Silkworm Egg]]s into worms, place them in another container (preferably a container that can hold at least double the amount of Silkworms you have, chests and cupboards work nicely), and match their number with [[Mulberry Leaf|Mulberry Leaves]]. Every 12 in-game (4rl) hours, the Silkworms will check for leaves; if there are none, they will check again in 12(4) hours, if at that point there are still no leaves, they will die. Note: it is easier and safer if you have the space to put 4 leaves per egg in the container at the start.

After a silkworm has eaten leaves 4 times, it will turn into a [[Silkworm Cocoon]]. Each time a worm eats a leaf, the worm's quality can increase or decrease towards the leaf's quality.

Villages are a convenient way of managing communities. They work as a shared claim which prevents non-members from interacting with village-owned objects and the special village officials get certain benefits.

Each village has a [[village claim]], or idol, which sends out influence in a large area, this area can be expanded with [[statue]]s and [[banner]]s to make the village larger. The village claim is similar to [[yeomanry|land claims]], except that it only protects objects, containers, buildings, mines etc.; however, anyone may wander on village ground as they wish. Since unauthorized use (i.e. by non-members) of village property requires criminal action, looting a village will generate [[scent]]s.

{{Verify}}
Villages maintain a pool of [[authority]], which is generated as members earn [[LP]]s. The idol, banners, and statues drain authority and lose effectiveness if the authority pool is fully drained.

==Ranks==
[[Lawspeaker]] - Can revoke(destroy) personal claims in the village, can choose the chieften, can exile a village member, can wear lawspeaker gear.

[[Chieftain]] - Can make people hirdsman, can summon hirdmsan to him(teleport), can make people member of the village, can wear chieften gear.

[[Hirdsman]] - Can wear hirdsman gear.

Village member - Can do everything(use/destroy/take things etc) in a village influence without leaving scents (the lawspeaker, chieftain, hirdsman are all members of village).

Non-members: Anyone else needs special skills to use, destroy, vandalize, steal in a village's influence and leave scents when they do.

==Creating villages==

Villages are started by making a village idol, then having at least 5 people with [[Yeomanry]] to right click on it (lawspeaker first), and then clicking "make village". After some dramatic fire animations, a village is created.

SwordMage: /* Skill values */ wikifying

=How Quality Works=
Items have a numeric quality rating ranging from 1 to infinity. What the quality rating does, more exactly, varies from item to item, but the general point is that a higher quality value equals, quite simply, a better item. High quality food gives more food event points, high quality weapons deal more damage, and high quality armor soaks more damage. Some objects are slower to break when at high quality. The quality of an object is generally determined by the quality of the natural resources used in the making of the object, but also by the tools used in the process, like anvils, saws, smelters, the fuel used &c. The quality of natural resources are determined in several different ways, but most simple gatherings have their qualities determined by abstract quality points, placed randomly across the map. Base quality for most such objects (herbs, clay, soil, water, for example) is ten, when not under the influence of a quality point.

Sometimes, quality has no effect on an item, despite the item having a quality-value. Cosmetic equipment is an example of this.

'''Unless otherwise stated, all information on this wiki refers to items with a quality-value of 10.'''

The formula <math>\sqrt{\frac{q}{10}}</math> is used to determine the improvement of crafted items.

For example a chainmail shirt with q40 would have two times more AC ( 6 / 10 ) than base chainmail shirt ( 3 / 5 ). ( see below)

[[File:Sqrt(q_div10).png]]

=Discussion=
'''There is still much to be understood about the quality system. Use this section to discuss findings, theories, etc.'''

New crafting skills are [[sewing]], [[smithing]], [[Glossary#Carpentry | carpentry]], [[cooking]], [[Glossary#Farming | farming]], and [[survival]].

Quality of crafted goods can be dependent on any (including combinations) of the following: Quality of ingredients, crafter's skill level, and crafter's stats. Which of these three are used seems to vary from item type to item type.

==Armor and Clothing==

Backpacks and cosmetic clothing are unaffected by quality.

Armor gets increased HP and AC as its quality increases.

AC is caluclated with <math>\sqrt{\frac{q}{10}}</math>

&nbsp
==Food==

Food gives more FEP as its quality increases. It seems that it's based on the Pre-Ragnarok FEP levels.

The FEPs gained by a piece of food is its base amount, multiplied by <math>\sqrt{\frac{q}{10}}</math>. -[[loftar]]

Evidence suggests that quality does not effect how much hunger food restores.

Increase quality can change what type of FEP is gained, as with fish.

==Miscellaneous==

Seeds quality is affected by your farming skill and reduced by it if its lower then the crop's QL

Water recovers more stamina per hunger as its quality increases. Details unknown.
> QL 10 water goes at a rate of 5% per 5% hunger
> QL 65 water goes at a rate of 15-16% per 5% hunger

Animals give higher quality items as their level increases.
:Affected by your butchering tools and survival skill [http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1885#p21850].

The quality of crafted items is equal to the average quality of the ingredients rounded down. However, it is also capped by the appropriate skill level of the crafter. Different items have different weights in averaging the quality of a final product.For example, a 50 QL bone combined with a 10 QL branch would make a 20 QL arrow, because a bone weighs 2 and a branch weighs 6. (The formula would be (50*2 + 10*6) / 8) - These are not the true weight values of these items, these are example values.
==From loftar==

For buildable objects, the quality is almost always calculated as such:
* The qualities of items in the individual item types are averaged arithmetically.
* The resulting average qualities of the various types are also averaged arithmetically -- often with some weights on items that should be "obviously" more important (like the iron in iron plows) -- to create the quality of the built object.

For craftable items, most are calculated like this:
* As with buildable object, the qualities of the individual item types are averaged, and then weighted together based on importance.
* If one is using any tools, like a churn, anvil, or smithy's hammer, the qualities of those are averaged with the above resultant quality -- often with a weigth of 1/4 for the tool.
* If any character attributes are involved, those attributes themselves are averaged geometrically, and if the resultant "skill quality" is lower than the "input/tool quality", the resultant quality is the arithmetic average of the skill quality and the input/tool quality.

If you don't know what a geometric average is, it is the multiplication product of the individual values, raised to the power of the inverse of the number of values. In other words, averaging values <math>V_1, V_2, \ldots, V_n</math> geometrically means calculating <math>(V_1 \cdot V_2 \cdot \ldots \cdot V_n)^{\frac{1}{n}}</math>.

As for ovens, kilns, smelter and finery forges, the quality of the resultant quality is the arithmetic average of the input item quality and the average of the oven quality and fuel quality, where the fuel quality is the arithmetic average of the fuel items put into the oven. In other words, if the item quality is <math>q_i</math>, the oven's quality is <math>q_o</math> and the fuel's quality is <math>q_f</math>, the quality of the resulting item will be <math>\frac{2q_i + q_o + q_f}{4}</math>.

As for the skills involved in crafting, it should mostly be obvious, but there are, of course, a few things to clarify:
* Sewing related recipes (including leatherworking ones) use the Sewing and Dexterity values.
* Smithing related recipes often combine both Smithing and Strength.

====Crafting formula====

Calculate items used:
:<math>q_{item} = \frac{\sum_{i = 1}^{n} q_iw_i}{\sum w}</math>

If there's a tool involved:
:<math>q_{item} \leftarrow \frac{4q_{item} + q_{tool}}{5}</math>

If there are skill values <math>s_1</math> through <math>s_n</math> involved:
:<math>q_{item} \leftarrow \left \lbrace
\begin{array}{ll}
\frac{q_{skill} + q_{item}}{2}, & \text{if\ } q_{skill} < q_{item} \\
q_{item}, & \text{otherwise}
\end{array}
\right \rbrace, \text{where\ }
q_{skill} = {\left( \prod_{i = 1}^{n} s_i\right )}^{\frac{1}{n}}
</math>

The wild plants in Haven and Hearth have been replaced with Wild Windsown Weeds, a new herb that you can forage for. This herb, when dried, converts into a seed of some kind that you can then plant with the [[Farming|farming skill]].

==How to Acquire==

In order to see the Wild Windsown Weed you need to have at least 8 in the [[Glossary#Exploration|Exploration]] skill. They become more widely visible at 15 [[Glossary#Exploration|Exploration]]. They can be found in most terrains, and are often hard to see because of their size.

==How to Use==

The Wild Windsown Weed is used to get seeds, in order to get these seeds it must be dried on either an [[Herbalist Table]], or on a [[Drying Frame]]. The drying time on a drying frame is 2 in game days, or 16 hours of real time, and the drying time on an [[Herbalist Table]] is 8 in game hours or about 2.6 hours of real time.

The kind of seed you obtain from Wild Windsown Weeds is random and not dependent on the type of terrain on which they are found. However, if you find several Wild Windsown Weeds in the same "area" they will tend to produce the same type of seed.

All fish are caught with [[Fishing]], but you can only fish in areas where you see a fish jumping out of the water.

==Quoting Jorb==
"Fish is now a limited and localized resource, working in the same way as any other localized resource. You should notice fish jumping in the water if the area has fish. What you catch when fishing depends on the following factors: Time of day, astronomical conditions, lure, hook and line type as well as quality on those. Where you fish also plays part."

Summoning can be done by finding the unjust player's [[Hearth Fire]] and holding left-click on the [[scent]] you have tracked and right-clicking their hearth fire.

Note: You must have the [[rage]] skill to summon characters.

==Scents==

You may only summon with the following [[scent]]s:
*[[Reek of Theft]]
*[[Stench of Murder]]
*[[Stink of Battery]]
*[[Vile Vapor of Vandalism]]

==Hird==

Another type of summoning is when the [[chieftain]] of a [[village]] summons their [[hird]], a group of players that act as the villiage's army. To do this you must use "call of the hird" on your villiage idol and for 500 authority points per hirdsman you may call your hirdmen to that point.
