It's what talk pages are for, though you were writing this on a wrong page. Don't edit Legacy:<pagename> if you want to update for hafen, but instead edit the redirect from <pagename> . For example if you want to update drying frame, go to [[Drying Frame]] page, click edit and delete the redirect and update the page accordingly., but leave the legacy page as it was.--[[User:Asgaroth22|Asgaroth22]] ([[User talk:Asgaroth22|talk]]) 07:39, 11 December 2015 (EST)
:Obvious problem is stuff like that: {{quote|Coal acts as two branches worth of fuel when using kilns, ovens, cauldrons, and any other wood-fueled objects. It acts as 1 tick of fuel when using smelters and crucibles.|[[Coal]]}}. Seems like with the approach described above objects would additionally require fuelFactor%%fuelName%% values, e. g. fuelFactorCoal = 1/2 for smelters. A kiln is mainly used to turn "unfired" clay objects into hardened ceramics. It has 25 (5 x 5) slot inventory that items to be processed are placed in.

High [[quality]] kiln is a cornerstone of industry, propagating and spiraling it's quality to most items through tools like [[Treeplanter's Pot]] and materials like [[Bone Ash]] (for [[Bone Clay]]) and [[Brick]]s.

Certain liquids can only be stored in [[Clay Jar]]s (in this case, quality doesn't matter.) These are [[Alchemy|Any Elixir]] and some extracts like [[Snake Juice]].

==How to Acquire==
#Collect enough clay. Keep in mind that the kiln has [[#Quality|quality value]], so clay quality matters.
#Make sure to learn [[Pottery]] [[Glossary#Skills|skill]]
#Find a suitable spot or [[Terraforming|prepare]] 3x3 building area
#Select Kiln in Build menu to place the construction site. See [[#GM01|full Game Menu path]]

Placement tips:
*Many Kiln products require further clay. As clay quality may vary within a short trip distance, both building a permanent settlement next to a high quality clay node and running clay digging trips are considerable actions.
*The Kiln will need [[Fuel|fuel]] for the fire, and the quality of the fuel will impact finished products. Consider how accessible your kiln will be to your tree farm.

== Quality ==

The quality of the kiln is the average quality of the clay used to make it, and is not [[softcap|softcapped]].

The [[quality]] of a kiln's products is determined by a weighted average:

: '''Product''' Quality = <math>2*_qUnburntProduct + _qFuel + _qKiln\over 4</math>

One way to help visualize/measure the effect of a kiln is to compare it to hypothetically using a q0 Kiln - the end product will increase in quality equal to one quarter of the quality of the Kiln.

Full "human readable" instructions for napkin math: divide productQ by two, divide fuelQ by four, divide KilnQ by 4, and add them all op.

== How to use ==

Kilns are fueled by [[fuel]], which burns away when the kiln is lit. To add this fuel:

# Left-click fuel, e.g. a [[Branch]] in your inventory.
# Right-click the Kiln on the map.(Hold down shift to avoid repeating step one.)
# Continue adding fuel until you have as much as you'll need. Different items require different amounts of fuel. Bricks require two ticks(branches), and most other things require more.
# Right-click the Kiln to see the Kiln's inventory and fuel indicator (the bar on the right.)

Within this inventory you may place unburnt objects which you wish to fire in the kiln. These include:

* Objects like [[Pot]], [[Treeplanter's Pot]], [[Urn]], [[Clay Jar]] , [[Toy Chariot]]
* Raw [[clay]], which becomes colored [[brick|bricks]]
* [[Bone]]s , which become [[Bone Ash]]

==Fuel==

The amount of objects in the kiln has no effect on the amount of fuel needed, but the type of objects may require different firing times.

* [[Bone]]s , which become [[Bone Ash]]

== Starting Skills, Required By. ==

The starting skills, "Oral Tradition", "Primitive Tools" & "Wilderness Survival", have "Required By" items. Although it seem logical for some of those items to be there (''some other items do not look logical''). The issue with this is that: 1) this is somewhat of a judgement call, and 2) if maintained it seems kinda inconsistent to also have items that are flagged as not requiring any skills(None). --[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 18:06, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Setting those to "None" until some alternative better idea comes along. --[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 20:11, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

== Potential "required Skill" issue. ==

I'm starting to see to meany items that, to be activated, seem to require a [[skills|skill]] (''[[foraging]] in this case'') that's way lower than the minimal skill one might expect.
For example the [[Wooden Roadsign]], which needs wooden blocks, can be build while only having the foraging skill. (''The foraging skill might not be needed either - to be checked'')
While the need for wooden blocks suggest that it would at least need the [[lumberjacking]] skill.
Its of course the discovery-teaching features in the game that allow for discovering items, while bypassing the skill that "normally" would be needed to generate/discover said items.
So issue-1 would be. What minimal skill to use in the items infobox. The "''technical minimal''" skill, or the "''hermit-path minimal''" that would exclude/ignore the discovery-teaching feature.
And potential issue-2. Is the technical minimal skill currently needed (''in related cases''), not a result of "''no skill adjustment on already existed items''" after the discovery-teaching features where added.
The most informational option would be to add both of them (''in related cases''). ... But that's also the most expensive(''work load'') option, which I'm currently not entertaining.
... ''more data needed''.
--[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 21:12, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Other example:
Although to find(''?:unchecked'') or pickup stinging nettle in the wild one needs the foraging skill. Getting the Stinging Nettle discovery by other means (''learning or garden Pot'') enables the crafting of: (''for a hearthling with the basic 3 skills only'')
* Nettle Pants (Stinging Nettle)
* Nettle Shirt (Stinging Nettle)
Potentially also:
* Bark Reinforcement (''bark'', string)
* Sprucecap (''Spruce Bough x2'', String)
The required Foraging skill on those 4 items is as such a derived skill. The real requirement here would be the Stinging Nettle discovery.
(''a derived skill would be needed: if your the only hearthling in a otherwise unpopulated world'')
I figure a lot of specified required skills are actual derived skills. Which would make it the current RoB default.
--[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 08:17, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

:... Those derived, non mandatory, skills could potentially be specified as "(''advisory'')" skills. Without the "required::" part. And would be related, and limited, to skills needed in relation to the needed materials. ... First things first. Collection some data (''low priority though'') ... --[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 22:01, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

Not 100% sure yet, but it seems logical. For build items that truly require a particular skill (''other than just the discovery of the related materials''). Those structures also can't be repaired without that skill. ie: Alternative backwards skill checking method. --[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 16:53, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

== Skill Table ==

Here's [https://i.ibb.co/7Nt9n6Dr/from.jpg dump of assorted thoughts] on [[Skills#List_of_Skills|List of Skills]] table improvement(?). I feel like TOC can be omitted completely. Skill text takes to much space and could be replaced with a basic skill description. And so on.

The result could look like [https://i.ibb.co/vxtP6nZG/to.jpg this].

:Will give them some though.
:On the 'no TOC' part. Do note that without a normal TOC there is currently no way to jump to an other section in the skill page, as the current image-map-links go to the related skill pages. If that would be changed/fixed any new image-map will also need to come with a updated image-mapping to keep its TOC function alive. One implementation problem is that the text in the image is currently to small to be used as alternative TOC for the skill a page.
:(The TOC, collapsed or not, state is remembered per user.)
:--[[User_talk:MvGulik|.MvGulik.]] 19:00, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

::As for 'no TOC': it seems to me that with the suggested compacted table there is no need for TOC in the page header. You see, a wiki user who needs detailed info on a certain skill would rather use wiki search. And a user who is just browsing can scroll the table. Right now we have to scroll through TOC anyway. Also, as suggested, the prerequisites tree-view (table's last column) can be use to navigate the table in a quick jump manner.
::Thank you for sharing your thoughts MvGulik. Better to find any flaws in suggestions now, before any changes applied, at the mock-up stage --[[User:Tmp0340|Tmp0340]] ([[User talk:Tmp0340|talk]]) 09:41, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

:::{{quote|You see, ... quick jump manner.}} Really, whatever. Just to clear something up. Over time you lost just about any credibility you initially had with me. How you like to proceed is up to you. But to me you do seem to have some second underlying, non-positive, reason for being on RoB-wiki. Which in my case is not really a reversible point of view.

Other example:
Although to find(''?:unchecked'') or pickup stinging nettle in the wild one needs the foraging skill. Getting the Stinging Nettle discovery by other means (''learning or garden Pot'') enables the crafting of: (''for a hearthling with the basic 3 skills only'')
* Nettle Pants (Stinging Nettle)
* Nettle Shirt (Stinging Nettle)
Potentially also:
* Sprucecap (''Spruce Bough x2'', String)
The required Foraging skill on those 4 items is as such a derived skill. The real requirement here would be the Stinging Nettle discovery.
(''a derived skill would be needed: if your the only hearthling in a otherwise unpopulated world'')
:On the 'no TOC' part. Do note that without a normal TOC there is currently no way to jump to an other section in the skill page, as the current image-map-links go to the related skill pages. If that would be changed/fixed any new image-map will also need to come with a updated image-mapping to keep its TOC function alive.
Other example:
Although to find(''?:unchecked'') or pickup stinging nettle in the wild one needs the foraging skill. Getting the Stinging Nettle discovery by other means (''learning or garden Pot'') enables the crafting of: (''for a hearthling with the basic 3 skills only'')
* Nettle Pants (Stinging Nettle)
* Sprucecap (''Spruce Bough x2'', String)
The required Foraging skill on those 4 items is as such a derived skill. The real requirement here would be the Stinging Nettle discovery.
(''a derived skill would be needed: if your the only hearthling in a otherwise unpopulated world'')
Here's [https://i.ibb.co/7Nt9n6Dr/from.jpg dump of assorted thoughts] on [[Skills#List_of_Skills|List of Skills]] table improvement(?).

The starting skills, "Oral Tradition", "Primitive Tools" & "Wilderness Survival", have "Required By" items. Although it seem logical for some of those items to be there (''some other items do not look logical''). :Although overall there should not be any significant 'general' differences between fast and slow worlds.
:But there will be some of course, like, for example, time related changes.

:Any fast-world specific features or data should be marked as such (See the [[template:Marktext|Marktext]] template for this). And should not replace any main-world related data/info.
:This also means that fast world specific data can't (should not!) be used inside the current infoboxes.
:Also do this on talk-pages. It allows easy searching for 16.1 related cases. A simple
{{t|MT|m{{=}}fw|16.1}}
would do.

:Alternatively spotted difference can also be dumped in this page. While using this page's Talk-page for discussion about particular changes, or for dumping raw data. (''ie: general collection'')
:A later option, when more is known, would be using a "W16.1" sub-page and adding a link to it from the main subject page. (''ie: "Kiln/w16.1". Used sub-page name might change''.)

:As its currently unclear where all the fast- vs slow-world differences might be, no potential other solutions are considered at this point.
:When it come to time related changes. The dev's will probably use some general ratio change or changes. These ratio's would be general targets.
A simple
{{t|MT|m{{=}}fw|16.1}}

Tmp0340: +"Hunger", "Energy" and "Feasting" mention (confirmation needed); +"Deep Worm" mention

:''See the [[FEP Table]] for information on the FEP values of specific foods.''
__NOTOC__
'''Food Event Points''' ('''FEPs''') are obtained by eating food. Once you have enough points, one of your [[Attributes]] (Strength, Agility, etc.) will be increased by either one or two points.

By placing the cursor over the '''Food Event Points''' bar on the character sheet, you can see how many FEPs you currently have and how many you need. To increase an attribute point, you must accumulate a number of FEPs equal to or greater than your highest attribute (ignoring modifiers).
*Example: My highest attribute is [[Strength]], which is 57.
*To gain another attribute point, I must eat enough food to gain at least 57 FEP.

:However:
Eating a unique food item lowers the total number of FEPs needed to gain an attribute point. This modifier resets every time you gain an attribute point, and you can again eat unique food items.
*Example: Eating two blueberries, a three blueberry pies, and eight roasted perch counts as 3 unique food items.
*If you gain an attribute point, you can eat the food items again and get the same bonus for three unique foods.

Which attribute is earned is determined by how many FEPs you have towards each attribute.
*Example: if you only eat [[yellowfeet]] gives 1 [[STR]] and 1 [[INT]] per food item.
*Upon filling the FEP bar, you will have a 50% chance of Strength increasing by one, and a 50% chance of Intelligence increasing by one.
*After an attribute is increased, your FEP bar is reset, so any excess FEPs are lost
**Do note however that excess FEP will be calculated in determining your next attribute point.

The FEP value a food item gives is determined by its [[quality]]

==FEP Requirement Reduction/Variety Bonus==

Although new players start out having issues keeping their character full on food, it quite quickly reverses as a settlement gets set up. Eventually emptying the food bar becomes a chore that must be done in order to gain stats. Eating a variety of food makes this go much more quickly, but often involves introducing the possibility of gaining stats of a type you're not currently interested in. Obviously there's a balance of eating as many food types as possible and eating only the FEP types that you want. Better quality food helps too since it increases the quantity of FEPs a food gives without changing the amount of fullness you gain from it.

The FEPs required to fill a food bar are reduced for each and every unique food item you consume while filling that FEP bar. The FEPs provided by the food itself are irrelevant, as long as the type of food is different. For example, if you eat [[Roasted Fox Meat]] and [[Blueberries]] (both give 1 INT), the bar will still be reduced.

According to Loftar, the forumula for the FEP reduction is:
<math> \frac {2 * \sqrt {Max Stat *10}}{10} </math>
or approximately <math> 0.632 * \sqrt{max} </math>

where max = the highest unmodified attribute of the character.

Example: The highest attribute on a character is Con at 64. That means for each new food type eaten, the required FEP is lowered by 0.632 * sqrt(64) = 0.632 * 8 = 5.056 or rounded to 5.1

'''NOTE''': This is according to a post by Loftar here: http://www.havenandhearth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9383

Example:

Joe has 15 in all attributes. So he needs 15 FEPs to get his next attribute increase. He eats enough bear meat to give him 10.5 Strength FEPs, and his Strength goes up by one. Wait, he needed a total of 15 FEPs didn't he? This is an example of the "variety bonus" that's applied to eating. The first item he eats reduces his required FEPs by 30%, to 10.5 from 15. Because he ate only STR giving FEPs, his STR went up to 16.

Joe now has 16 STR, so he'll need 16 FEPs for his next attribute increase. He eats some bear meat, reducing his needed FEPs to 11.2 (30% reduction). Later that day he decided he'd like to eat blueberries. Upon eating blueberries his total FEPs required drops to 8.8 (21% reduction from 11.2). The variety bonus concerns food types, not the FEPs they give. Both cooked perch and blueberries provide pure INT FEPs, but they count as two separate items for the variety bonus.

At the end of the day, he's eaten only cooked bear meat and blueberries, giving him 4.0 STR FEPs and 4.8 INT FEPs. When the food bar is full, the proportion of the whole that an FEP type represents of the food bar becomes the chance that he will gain that stat. As a result, Joe has a 45.5% (4.0/8.8) chance of gaining STR and a 54.5% (4.8/8.8) chance of gaining INT. Despite having more chance of getting INT FEPs, Joe gets another STR point and his total STR goes up to 17.

If INT had gone up to 16 instead of STR getting another point, his total FEPs required to level would not have changed. Because his STR went up though, he'll have to eat more FEPs next time around to get another stat point. This of course could be compensated by the variety bonus if he has more food types around to eat instead.

As per the example, increasing FEPs is based on your highest attribute. This is why it is recommended to raise your attributes evenly, since it will affect how many FEPs you require to raise every other attribute. Before allowing one attribute to become excessively dominant, consider increasing your other attributes so that you'll have a greater variety of skills available when needed. Raising Intelligence from 10 to 11 when you have 200 strength is just as difficult as raising strength from 200 to 201.

==Miscellaneous Factors==
[[Hunger]] and [[Satiations]] affect FEP and attribute gain, so be sure to read about them as well.

[[Symbel|Feasting]] (eating by a [[table]]) provides both FEPs and Hunger, irrespective of current [[Energy]]. But without a table if your Energy is below Healing (8000%), the only effect of eating is to gain Energy.

Some other effects like [[Deep Worm]] wound can modify total FEP gain.

[[{{PAGENAME}}]]s allow you to construct trials to teleport and pathfind along. They can't be built indoors.

==How to Use==

*You can teleport using the milestone or a wooden roadsign.
*Milestones can create/hold up to 4 tails, whereas [[Wooden Roadsign]]s can only create/hold 1 trail.
*Milestones posts are a lot more difficult to grief than wooden roadsigns, with much higher soak and hp.
** Exception: Any intermediate Milestones containing a broken trail is relative easy to destroy. (''assuming zero soak'')
*You can build and connect 'to' a master wooden roadsign at the end of a milestone trail to allow bidirectional travel.
*Travelling and exiting a trail at a non master trail post gives a "waylaid" debuff that lasts 10-15 minutes, allowing travel along the trail from any trail post.
**Heartlings can hold up to 3 different waylaid debuff's. After which the last one is replaced by newer ones.
**A waylaid debuff is also removed, or not given, when exiting at a related master trail post.

==Notes==
* Milestone posts Range: 31 tiles (default placement). Manual: Smaller than 31.5 tiles.
* "''There is no space by the destination''." message: Although the general spawn area around trail posts is ~6x6 tiles. The game itself looks for reachable tiles (''to prevent potential spawning on the wrong side of a nearby wall''). Or, if the direct area around the exit trail-post/(spawn point) is crowded by other objects, it usually fails to find a reachable free tile.

==How to Acquire==
'''Note: the paragraphs below are Legacy info and need to be verified/adjusted/rewritten'''

Once you have an initial milestone constructed, you can build mini milestones by right clicking the initial milestone. Continue right clicking the new milestones to create more. Link them, and you have a path-findable road(trail).

If you use a sign to connect the last stone to itself, it will make a character following the trail turn around at the end and start following the trail in the opposite direction instead of stopping at the end of the trail. You can no longer extend this trail. If you want to extend it, you'll have to destroy the last milestone. Then the new last milestone will have gone back to default last milestone behaviour.

==Quoting Jorb==

Build a milestone. (Right) Click "Extend". You now have a cursor to place a second milestone. <s>The second milestone needs to be placed within 500 pixels of the one you just extended from.</s> You can CTRL+LMB to walk with this cursor active (much like archery). Place as many milestones as seems adequate. On the original milestone, select "Make Trail". You now get to name the trail, and you'll be given a sign. Connect this trail sign to the next milestone. This next milestone can now be right clicked to retrieve yet another sign. Connect this new sign to the next milestone again, and, again, picking up new signs as you move along. Wash, rinse and repeat. Once you've connected up a nice little trail, you can now follow it by rightclicking on any of the connected milestones. Your dude will walk, and pathfind, as best as he can, along the road(trail).

The radius on the original milestone, shown during placement, is the "turn radius". Once the dude enters this circle, when following a trail, he'll start pathfinding towards the next stone(trail post) in line.

==Word for the Wise==

<s>Road</s>(Milestone) posts take a very high strength value to destroy, well above the strength you will have by the time you are able to build them. Even for established players they are time consuming to destroy. If you build a road(trail), make sure to place the posts relatively close together so you don't walk off the road(trail) (dragging carts this is a serious hazard). Plan out corners well in advance, and try to only build roads(trails) that won't interfere with other peoples building. No player likes taking these things down.
