The egg does not immediately loose ability to hatch if taken out of the coop, you can add it back in most cases. I observed that hens can lay eggs in 2x2 space below them and they can hatch but I don't know if they only do this if the first row is of chicks or dead eggs. Possibly this could be a way to check if an egg is dead or not. Feed storage
A quality 6 and a quality 1 seed ended up at quality 3. The quality might be the average of seed qualities. Abagraba 06:08, April 26, 2010 (UTC)

The 'chicken coop' feed quality seems to be stored in a higher precision than just a q-int (at least while its not unloaded). Case: Needed to drop 2 same q seeds to get it to upgrade one point. (probably not stored as real float, but as multiplied int.). --MvGulik 02:16, 25 March 2012 (EDT)
- Don't think it's int or q-weighted int as in both cases putting more of a seed that gives you no result in first instance would still give you no result. Most likely it is float with some level of precision. (possibly seed values for each instance could be stored but that would cause extra work when draining them by eating so i doubt it's the case) --Rook 04:35, 25 March 2012 (EDT)
- Reason I think they might not be using a general float for this is because of general speed considerations between float and int math. That's of course not saying they could not be using a float for.

Chicken vs Fodder Quality
So, I tested with four Q10 hens and 1 Q10 cock in a coop with Q7 (averaged) fodder. As a control, I also placed two Q10 chicks into the coop. After 24h realtime, a notch was gone from fodder, the chicks were of lower quality (8). The hens and cock remained Q10. The eggs were 5, 6, 11, and (unknown because SOMEBODY stole the egg), though reading again I see egg is based upon a random deviation increase or decrease from parent qualities. I will continue with further day cycles to see if the Hens or Cock qualities are changed by the fodder. Gedrean 00:08, January 5, 2011 (UTC)

Confirming that chicks will hatch(mature into chicken or cock) when they are the only thing inside a(that) otherwise empty 2x2 block. Providing it was the first free 2x2 block. --MvGulik 17:50, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
