All wound types can become infected.

Infected wounds have a chance to grow better or worse over time.

Infected sores are an overlay applied to a particular wound, rather than a wound in and of itself. Using soap on the infection stops it from growing worse while the "Lathered" buff lasts (longer the better quality soap you have), and using a Camomile Compress on the infection stops the infection permanently. Infected wounds can be treated as normal, but the infection makes the wound itself grow worse.[1]
