As of March 13/2011, a new curiosity based LP system was introduced. It appears to be intended to help minimize the advantage gained by botters. When first introduced, many players objected heavily to its induction, especially due to the fact that it was radically different from the grind based experience system that was in place previously.

Learning Points are used to buy Incremental skills, Non-incremental skills, and Property.

They are initially come from contact with new objects through acquisition. Picking your first branch off a tree will give you LP, but picking a branch off the ground will not. Crafting of some objects like Wooden Cutlery will give LP for the first time, while the creation of others like the kuksa will not. It seems all symbel items give LP, while other crafted items mostly don't. Any item that is used to craft another item will provide "acquisition lp".

After first encounter LP, LP is gained off of studying one or more curiosity. These can be crafted, foraged, caught, or even created as a side effect from other activities.

Side Note: Items your ancestors have discovered won't give you Learning Points.

Getting LP

Tip 1: A good way of getting LP is swamps, as an noobie you could Try catching emerald dragonflys, keep catching and collecting them and study them, once you get around 25+ exploration from them you will start seeing lady's mantles (Make sure to put the personal beliefs slider to full peacfull and change)and when you study the swamp curios you will get many LP, I used this technique and got up to 34 exploration, and when I study the swamp, after 3 days I got theft, very easily.
