Template:Infobox weaponA Bow, sometimes called a Wooden Bow or Woodbow to distinguish it from the Ranger's Bow, is a medium ranged weapon. It fires stone arrows and bone arrows. It deals more damage than a sling, but is twice as hard to aim with. Unlike a sling, the ammunition used affects the overall damage. It is currently unknown quite how overall damage is calculated from bow damage and arrow damage.
IEMM | Base Aiming Speed | Base Damage |
2.0 | 0.5x sling, 3x Ranger's Bow | 75 |
The Intrinsic Effective Marksmanship Modifier (IEMM) variable is multiplied by the bow's quality to find the Effective Marksmanship Limit (EML) of the bow. e.g. a bow of quality 13 will have an EML of 26 (13x2). A person using a bow will not get any benefit to aiming speed from a marksmanship skill higher than the bow's EML. Aiming speed is set by the the lowest of 1) a player's marksmanship skill, 2) the EML of the bow used, 3) the EML of the ammunition used. So, a person with 30 marksmanship skill, a quality 13 bow (IEMM 2.0, EML 26), and a quality 7 bone arrow (IEMM 2.0, EML 14) will aim as if their marksmanship skill were 14. IEMM and EML have no effect on weapon damage.
Base aiming speed is in relation to other weapons. A wooden bow aims twice as slowly as a sling, but 3 times faster than a Ranger's Bow. This means that a person with 300 marksmanship and a Ranger's Bow would aim at the same speed as a person with 100 marksmanship and a wooden bow, assuming that neither person is limited by the EML of their weapons and ammunition.
How to Acquire
Craft > Tools > Ranged Weapons > Bow.
Notes
A bow takes up both hand equipment slots. Together with a quiver, this severely restricts inventory space by preventing a player from using a backpack or traveller's sack. Using a merchant's robe can help with this.
Due to its longer aiming time, it is recommended that if players intend to use a bow, then they raise their marksmanship skill to at least 60, This would also mean using at least a quality 30 (EML 60) bow and arrows for maximum effect.
To find the damage of any given bow, use the following formula: 75*sqrt(q/10) were q is the quality of the bow.
The quality of a bow is determined by the following formula: (qBranches+qString)/2, softcapped by marksmanship. Survival seems to have no effect.
