Swirling Vortex, commonly referred to as "Whirlpool" is a special object found infrequently in rivers and lakes. They were introduced at the beginning of World 10.

Description

Swirling Vortex functions as both a utility and a hazard. Using a Swirling Vortex will transport you to another Swirling Vortex somewhere else in the world, offering a fast mode of transportation across large distances.

However, using a Swirling Vortex inflicts decay damage on your ship, and it is possible to break your vessel and drown to death. Caution should be used with Swirling Vortex, and it's advised to only enter one if carefully planned beforehand.

Most significant benefit of Swirling Vortices is that you can use them to travel to another continent without having to build an expensive ocean-going ship.

How to use safely

Use a fully repaired dugout or rowboat. If you use latter, you must be the only player in it. (You can put cargo into your boat; it won't cause any extra damage.)

Have an axe (and a saw if you're using a rowboat) so you can acquire materials to repair your boat every time after you use one. With Dugout you can simply chop blocks from Mirkood logs if those are available, without the need of chopping down trees.

Notes

According to research done by LostJustice on the forums, Swirling Vortex behaves as follows:

-Swirling Vortex are not bidirectional, meaning that the 'destination' of one Swirling Vortex does not necessarily connect to the original Swirling Vortex.

-Swirling Vortex deal a base damage of 50% on boats, multiplied by the number of people in the boat. This means that entering a Swirling Vortex with more than one person in your boat will result in certain death (or at least destroy your boat).

-Swirling Vortex destinations are temporary, and appear to change randomly every two weeks.

-More than one Swirling Vortex can end up at the same destination.
