How it works

Here is the video proof of the small test i performed.

When wearing the ring, i stepped into a boat and allowed my friend to bash the boat and cause me to drown.

The meaning of this test is to see how the ring reacts when there is no obvious last solid ground i touched.

The results are that the ring KOed me, dealing concussion but no asphyxiation damage, and instantly hearthed me home.

It's not known if this is the ring's new default behavior unlike Legacy or if this is its failsafe should it not know what "last solid ground" to place me at. It's also not known if this effect can occur in combat or after being KOed in water, or if it occurs when already drowning and equipping the ring during it to save yourself.--Link (talk) 21:14, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Based on the other auto-teleporting behaviors of the current worlds. It makes sense that if a character has no hearthfire it might teleport to: 1) The last thingwall you visited, or 2) the nearest thingwall to your current position. (not sure about 'last' vs 'nearest'). Don't think 3) some non thingwall related random location in the world is still a thing.
I doubt the game now a days generally auto-saves your last land/(shallow water?) location. Although it still could when putting on the ring.
(As ship docks are a ships only thing its seems more or less save to dismiss those here.)
  • Hearthfire: First default location if available.
