Paying attention

SanCoca. I just fixed the Irminsul page for you. The Infobox template calls need to go first, and there was no need to add the 'name' and 'image' parameters. Why you would deviate from that standard, while RoB is full of example pages, kinda beats me. Not paying attention comes to my mind here. I light of that I suggest you try to learn some of the RoB-wiki defaults quickly. --.MvGulik. 02:35, 19 February 2019 (EST)

I'm new

Hi, i'm new just trying to help.

It would be nice if you'd be a little more encouraging.

Also, maybe it's an idea that when people check for the tiny gems, it's just a page that links to the main one, that way you can just have 1 page to redirect?

>"It would be nice if you'd be a little more encouraging."
Those that show an innate interest in learning(ie: self education), can get all the encouraging I can give them (although those kind of individuals usually don't need it). Those that just walk into a new environment, while knowing that they know very little of it, and that don't seem to have looked around for potential house rules. ... No, I don't. As it would be like encouraging a kind of laziness I truly dislike. (and no. I do not care to much about social graces just for the sake of being social)
>"tiny gems" Why only for tiny gems? There are 400+ gem variation! If one allow for one (redirect or otherwise), One effectively would allow for all. A better question here seems to me "What problem are you trying to solve?"! If its related to not having to use the wiki search system. I for one rather have users spend a bit time learning the wiki search system. Which seems way more useful for them in the long run.
Nice catch on that typo of mine. (At least your seeming to look around now. The signature part in Talk pages could still use a bit of work though)

Thanks!

Hey,

Thanks for explaining to me why it is you do the things you do.

I honestly had no idea the amount of thought that goes into wiki pages. I sort of came here with no respect for the thought/work that goes into a wiki page which i've learned from already as I do understand a lot now, i'm trying to be mindful now of what changes I make or what facts i need to check.

Hopefully I can become a good addition to the RoB wiki.

Thanks for your patience.

Welcome aboard, and thanks for helping out. And thank you for being cognizant of the rules/guidelines around here. There aren't too many, but they are important for the wiki to function.
The Community Portal might be a good resource to see how things work around here.

How to find some stats?

Hi,

I've been looking at some pages and I know stats/info for the game changes every world, how do you find out what the new info is? Do you have to experiment? or do you grab source code and spit through that?

Like for example, the Giant Puffball says Infobox data in need of additional verification"

How does one verify this data?

--SanCoca 15:44, 22 February 2019 (AEST)‎

>"Do you have to experiment? or do you grab source code and spit through that?"
Mostly user-driven data, and a hint of source/client provided data. information like the per*exp values for plants are wholly user derived. Their accuracy depends on how well the user controls his experiments. some users will make a brand new character and increment numbers until he spots a certain plant, then check it against the wiki. Some amount of trust in the user has to be made, unless picture evidence (which we like) is supplied.
one of the reasons I enjoy this game so much is that it's basically a giant sandbox where the scientific method can be applied to any aspect of the game and often times you'll get tangible, usable information in return.
certain elements of game data can be derived from the client. custom clients such as the Amber Client can reveal certain information, such as tree names, terrain names, etc.
and if you're uncertain whether you should add something, post in the page's talk page first. someone around here will help answer your question or discuss the matter with you.

(started before, but finished after Ricky's post. Probably contains duplicate stuff.)
Changed or outdate info on RoB is found by comparing the results you get in the game itself against the current RoB info (ie: by way of experimentation). But in order to do that effectively you do need to understand the game feature your checking. And how the RoB data relates to it. With the perexp value on RoB for example its crucial to understand its a minimal value (and of course that it consists of the used game character's Perception times Exploration stats). And if in doubt, use the talk pages to drop your found data (with some additional background/testing info). The Talk page can of course also be used for questions. But as RoB wiki is not intended as an alternative game-help-forum, Questions should in principle have some RoB related reason to them. if they have none they probably should be asked at the H&H forum (The HnH Post: Grand List of Simple Questions topic comes to mind). --.MvGulik. 02:49, 22 February 2019 (EST)
