- Just in case. There is a Legacy specific discussion page.
As of World 4, certain animals are now capable of murdering you after defeating you in combat. These animals are: Boars, Bears, Mouflon, Ants, and Auroch. Of these, Boars and Bears become aggressive once they see you. They will not always kill you but it is better to escape them than risk death. Follow these basic steps to protect yourself from animals.
Step 1: Stay Alert Be aware of your surroundings and watch for nearby animals. Boars can hide behind trees, rocks, and shrubs. Bears can hide behind rocks. Move the screen around to manually watch for aggressive animals via holding the scroll button on your mouse.
Step 2: Know where it's safe Keep an eye on your surroundings for certain safe areas. Shallow water that is at least 2 tiles wide, caves, unfenced houses, and boats are all safe from wild animals. If you are attacked by an animal, flee to these areas for protection.
Step 3: Don't always run While running away is a great idea, it's also a good idea to stop and let the animal swing at you if it's too close, especially if you have some unarmed/melee skill. While moving, the animal automatically hits you and ignores your defense bar, meaning you take full damage. Standing still for a moment and letting it swing at you will mean that it has to deal with your defense bar. This will mean you take less than full damage and can resume running again.
Step 4: Know your opponent Don't assume all animals are the same. You can move faster than boars with the 'Run' or 'Sprint' speed settings. Bears have to build initiative twice before attacking you but move faster than if you sprint. Boars and Bears also only spawn in forests so if you travel through grassland, heath, moor, and mudflats you will be much less likely to run into animals. Animals cannot enter water tiles of any kind, so boating through rivers will mean you're always safe from animals. Animals cannot enter houses or caves. Animals can destroy most obstacles now but cannot break palisades, houses, or brick walls.
