When building cauldrons the quality is based on the metal, the wood quality is ignored.
Cauldrons require water and fuel (i.e. branches, charcoal, etc.) to function. The qualities of the water, ingredients and of the cauldron itself affect the quality of the result differently depending on the product. (fuel quality doesn't matter)
After loading the cauldron with fuel, click "Light" to begin boiling the water. A metal cauldron does not need time to heat water like a clay cauldron.
Picking up a lit cauldron removes all fuel from it and hence extinguishes the flame. This is useful for saving water although note that you lose all the fuel and cannot get it back.
When cauldrons are used in item crafting the cauldron portion of the formula is given by.
