How to use

Equip in a Hand slot at Character screen, right click and light

Warning

Torches don't stay alight forever so it's wise to carry two of them in case. Torches are useful to see when mining without a miner's helmet. You may equip a torch and a stone axe at the same time, but not with a pick axe which makes you mine quicker (and take less stamina to achieve).

Torches are also useful in torchposts. You can pick torchposts up and take them into mines to light your way. Make sure you have a torch on hand, because when the torch runs out you will need it to find the torchpost again!

Wielding two lit torches expands the area of illumination that provided by a significant amount. Useful for when exploring caves.

You are able to craft torches using linen cloth clothing (Clothing you start out in) instead of linen cloth. This is useful for beginners that need more torches.
