Rustroot extract is used to prospect for Metal Ores. The Quality of the extract determines the detection range when prospecting.

Quoting Sevenless: Using Vitality 10 extract I found out the range on the arrow to be roughly 5 tiles away. Vitality 30 extract however had a detection range of 50 tiles. Both Essence and Substance appeared to have no effect on it. Prospecting always tells you what type of stone/ore is on the tile one layer below you.

Note that as of world 10, items have a singular quality. This value is presumably used like Vitality was.

How to Acquire

In order to craft rustroot extract you need an empty Jar, a container filled with at least 0.4 liters of Water and Rustroot in your inventory.

How to Use

When using rustroot extract, it will prospect what is in the layer below, meaning if you prospect on the overworld/surface, it will show you what is on cave level 1; When used on cave level 1 it will show what is below on cave level 2 etc. When prospecting, if a red "pie chart" does not appear and point you in the direction of a vein, you are either too far or your rustroot is not a high enough QL to determine if one is around.

as of W13, with Q18, the prospecting resulted in only telling what was directly below the hearthling. (if skills matter, my exp=24, per=47) Message Box saying what mineral (or none) is below, always appears when using Rustroot Extract. Since there was no ore vein within range, no pie indicator appeared.

After locating a vein you will then need to match up the cave layer with the overworld/surface layer. This can be done in several different ways. You can use the grid tiles on your map to attempt to match the locations, or if you'd like to be more precise through a program such as TP's Map Tool[1], or simply taking screenshots at the location of the entrances on the overworld/cave layer and matching them up via photoshop/gimp, with one of the layers set to roughly 50% opacity.

Quality

The quality of the rustroot extract depends on the quality of the used rustroot and water.
