Unlike most terrains in the Hearthlands, Plowed Fields is a completely artificial terrain, which can only be made by a Hearthling plowing another terrain, either by hand,

Adventure > Landscaping > Hand Plow
Or through the use of a Wooden or Metal Plow.
Plowing is needed to get rid of forest terrains and thicket(special) terrain. Grass terrains can be paved directly. The alternative to getting rid of forest terrain is by digging which will turn the terrain into stomped-dirt.
Once plowed, the plowed fields can be used for the planting of Crops, or further transformed with:

Notes
- Unlike forest and grass-land terrains plowed fields or stumped dirt terrain do not expand on there own. (as such plowed fields and stomped dirt terrain can be mixed without the risk of any terrain creep changes between the two.)
- To protect plowed fields or stomped dirt tiles from expanding forest and grass terrains they needs to be surrounded by a ring of paved terrain.
- Although very similar but not identical to paved tiles Woodchips can also be used for this.
