A Metal Saw is the metal equivalent of the Bonesaw. One is required to cut a log into boards. With a metal saw, you get ~50% more boards per log than you get with a bonesaw. Different types of logs provide different amounts of boards, see more here.

Tips
- At start when quantity is not an issue and quality is, you want to use the best-quality saw you can get. Bonesaws are a lot easier to get at higher qualities than metal saws. This is due the fact that bonesaws are based off of the Survival skill and Bone Material quality; the metal saw involves metal quality and the Smithing skill. It's fairly easy to get a 150+ quality bonesaw, but metal is much more difficult to improve at fresh world.
