Craft > Clothes & Equipment > Tools > Branding Iron
A branding iron can be used to brand animals, to indicate them as your property. Heat the branding iron in a fireplace or kiln to use it. It takes a very short time to heat (less than five minutes)
Trading/gifting branded animals
Quoting Jorb: "Branding Irons are initially attuned to the person who crafted them. Anyone may right-click a Branding Iron and "Set your mark", to attune the Iron to themselves. The owner of an animal may trade or give it to someone else by re-branding it with a Branding Iron attuned to the intended new owner."
Notes
- As of patch Christmas Antwolf (2018-12-14) update Branding Iron now work with Herder Credo to improve animals.
- The Branding Iron needs to be set to the character with Herder Credo and that same character needs to be the one doing the actual branding also for the credo bonuses to apply.
- Using a branding iron on an animal to replace someone else's brand is an act of vandalism (Feb 5 2020, tested on horse).

Thus, you can ensure access to an animal by branding it with your mark."
