Cranes are creatures found in Swamp, Fen or Bog. If you kill them, you can pick them up like a small animal that was trampled. Dead Crane takes 1x1 slots in the inventory.

Roughly slightly stronger than Swan. With 35-40 combat stats spamming punch or sideswipe works fine. You'll need to be on a horse to catch it when it flees, unless you deal a high enough damage move to kill it before it begins to.
