Swamp are one of the many biomes within the Hearthlands, appearing in clumps which can be connected by small, branching straits. Without a horse, the fastest a Hearthling can traverse through them is at walking speed, and it will use up significantly more stamina to do so. Any kind of landscaping is impossible within a Swamp, and they cannot be used as a source of water, nor can boats or rafts be placed on them like in rivers or lakes, however, a dugout can be used.
If you have empty equipment slots while you walk through a Swamp, you will slowly accumulate Leeches, which will eventually start dealing damage to you as they try to reach your Constitution stat, for up to three bites until they become bloated, where they can either be left to eventually turn back into a normal leech or used as fishing bait. As such, living near a Swamp can be useful for collecting fishing bait, even more so if you are also near a fishing node.
Walking through a swamp while wounded seems to increase your chances of developing infections.
Notes
- Unlike hearthlings, creatures travel at their regular speed over Swamp.
