Placement

  • The general, easy distance, between lantern posts that can be connected by a rope is 7 tiles.
  • The maximum distance (object center to center) is 7.5 tiles (with placegrid 10). This is when the default-round range-display crosses the other lantern post center.
  • For placing lantern posts really close near walls & fences placegrid 10 also works best here. Tech: 1/size(0.196)=5(.102~) (Here the N.102 rest value shows there is very little wasted space used in those cases.)
  • As long as the lantern-line is empty, it can be removed with a Right mouse click on the lantern-line. The rope is returned to your inventory.
  • To remove a non empty lantern-line, use Right mouse&Shift on the lantern line. The rope and lanterns are returned to your inventory + lit lanterns are extinguished.
  • Destroying lantern posts:
    • If a slave lantern post is destroyed the connected lantern-lines(ropes) and lanterns are kept/stored in the control post.
    • If a control lantern post is destroyed it drops the lantern-lines(ropes) and lanterns it controlled to the ground.

Decorating

  • To connect two lantern posts with a rope. Click the rope on one of the poles(ping), then move near the second post in a good position and then click the rope on the second pole. Note that the initial clicked pole, when connection a rope, also becomes the control post for that rope/line for all further actions. (ie: you need direct access to the control-pole to interact with a given pole-line.)
    • When using a setup where multiple lines are using the same control post. It make sense to use two different post colors. One for control posts, and an other for slave-only poles.
  • Hanging up lanterns is done by just clicking them on the line. Any lanterns on the rope will be moved further down the line.
    • Clicking the rope/line to add a lantern can be arkward at times. Already placed lanterns can also be used/clicked in this case.
    • The number of lanterns that can be placed on a lantern-line depends on the distance between to poles. (Formula unclear. Default placed poles with a 7 tiles distance can contain 6 lanterns. A 7.5 long lantern-line can contain 7 lanterns.)
  • Lanterns on the line can be individually removed with a Right mouse click on them.
  • To completely remove the line/rope and all the lantarn's at ones, use Right mouse&Shift on the lantern line. The rope and lanterns are returned to your inventory.

Lighting

  • Lighting the lanterns can be done by:
  1. Holding a lit fire source, like a torch, and clicking on the hanging lantern to light it.
  2. Take/hold the lantern and clicking it on some fire source, like a fire or Candelabrum. And than hanging it on the lantern line. (dropping lit lanterns in some inventory extinguishes them.)
