The Cavedust is a Curiosity which can be used in the Study Report to earn Learning Points.
Cavedust is a stackable powder that can be studied. It is created by mining certain walls in caves. If a cave wall is adjacent to a tile that will cause a cave-in, it will create a cavedust. A cave-in tile will not cave-in if it is within range of a support. The LP gain amount listed only applies to a full stack of 0.50kg of Cavedust. Smaller amounts can be studied, but the LP gain is reduced proportionally.
The amount of dust that drop is very important when trying to figure out cave-ins. If the amount dropped is 0.01, it means that there is 1 tile around it (diagonals included) that will cause a cave-in. If it is 0.02, then there is two cave-ins around that tile. The quantity can theoretically go up to 0.08, with an equal amount of cave-ins. This system is very reminiscent of the well known game Minesweeper.

- Loose Velvet (2023-06-22)◎ >"When outside the protection of a mine support, encountering a mine warning tile (e.g. one near a cavein tile, where cave dust falls) will interrupt area mining operations."
- Dust & Mud (2016-09-27)◎ >"Added "Cavedust". Appears whenever you mine out a tile next to a collapse tile. Curiosity."
