The Primitive Casting-Rod is, as the name suggests, a tool used to catch fish, one of the staple food source early on for beginners. It must be equipped, occupies one hand, and is used by right-clicking an area where fish are jumping. For more information check the Fishing page.

## How to Acquire

Create a pole with the crafting recipe.

Now, you need to add a line, a hook, and some kind of fishing lure before you can use the fishing pole.

The most accessible hook is the bone hook, which is made from bones, easily obtained from animals, particularly rabbits and chickens. The metal hook requires a nugget of any common metal.

The easiest string to use as a line is a spindly taproot, which requires the foraging skill to find. You can also use a hide strap, flax fibres or hemp fibres, though these are a bit more difficult to acquire. Other types of string are too frail to use as a fishing line.

To fish with this casting rod you need to have some kind of lure equipped. Early accessible fishing lures are: Woodfish, Rock Lobster Lure, Feather Fly and Pinecone Plug. If you have a farm set up, then Poppy Wobbler is a good choice too.

To equip the fishing pole with fishing line and other necessities, left click on the item to select it and then right click it onto the fishing pole. If you want to swap something out, you can take it apart again by right clicking on the fishing pole and selecting Unequip, which will return all the parts to your inventory.

## How to Fish

Fishing with casting rod was changed during Swan Fishing game update. Now list of options on fish to catch is displayed. Available options are determined by your fishing gear, the moon phase, and the local fish node, along with a chance to catch that particular fish. The more Will and Survival you have, the more exhaustive list you will be presented with, and the longer time you will also have to make your choice. If you chose nothing within the timeframe, you will automatically pick the fish with the highest catching chance.
