Tanning tubs are used to turn any type of dried hide into leather.
How to Use
In order to make leather in a Tanning Tub, you have to follow the steps below. Leather isn't exactly hard to make, but it is a time-consuming process.
- Acquire a raw hide.
- Dry the hide by placing it in a drying frame.
- Wait 8-24 real-time hours for the hide to finish drying.( [Verify] duration)
- Take the dried hide and place it in a tanning tub.
- Fill a bucket, using either a well or an open water source.
- Obtain a piece of treebark from a tree.
- With the bark in your inventory, the water bucket in one hand, and an empty bucket in the other hand, craft Tanning Fluid
Craft > Processing & Materials > Tanning Fluid
.
- Hold the bucket with the tanning fluid on your mouse cursor and right-click the tanning tub to fill it. The tub sprite will change once there is enough tanning fluid in it.
- Wait 30 real-time hours for the hide to turn into leather. When this happens, the hide on the tub sprite will turn a more pronounced shade of brown.
- Retrieve your finished leather.
Each tub can hold a maximum of 4 inventory spaces of hide at a time, ie 4x Rabbit Fur, 2x Dried Fox Hide, or 1x Aurochs Hide. The amount of leather you get is equal to the filled spaces. Tanning Fluid is consumed per created unit of leather.
Notes
- Tube can hold up to 40 l of fluid. 2,5 l is consumed for each piece of leather. So full tube can manage with 16 pieces of leather or 4 full loads.
- Tanning Tubs need a minimal amount of fluid to keep up production. The fluid is consumed when a hide changes into leather, so if you're using multiple hides, at some point the fluid may become too low, halting progress on the remaining hides. This can be seen on the tub graphic as no fluid showing. It will continue where it left off as soon as you add more fluid.
