A crucible is used for making sand into glass, crafting objects from glass, and smelting a metal bar into nuggets (or vice versa).

How to Use

Place a single piece of coal or block of wood into the crucible (note that you cannot make bronze bars when the crucible is wood-fuelled), light it with a firebrand or a torch, then right click it to walk close to it. Then simply craft objects that require the crucible.

Quality

The crucible does have a quality which is determined by the quality of the bricks and clay used to make it (Unlike a Quern for example). However, it has no effect on any of its products. Perhaps this could change.

It does determine the quality of Irrlights that have chance to spawn when crucible is used to craft something. Irrlight will be the same quality as the Crucible.

Game Development

  • Colorful Crucible (2021-04-11) >"Added variable materials to "Crucible". The Crucible can now burn both coal and ordinary fuel (e.g. wood), but some processes may require coal. We had not intended to make nuggets strictly dependent on coal."
