The Bushcraft Fishingpole is, as the name suggests, a tool used to catch fish, one of the staple food source early on for beginners. It must be equipped, occupies one hand, and is used by right-clicking an area where fish are jumping. For more information check the Fishing page.
How to Acquire
Create a pole with the crafting recipe. (This requires you to have gathered and discovered a Tree Bough, a Block of Wood, and String. String is most easily found by foraging spindly taproot or stinging nettle. See Foraging.)
Now, you need to add a line, a hook, and some kind of bait before you can use the fishing pole. You do so by crafting a Fishline, a Fishing#Fish Hook, and gathering Bait, independently.
The most accessible hook is the bone hook, which is made from bones, easily obtained from animals, particularly chickens and squirrels. The metal hook requires a Nugget of Common Metal.
The easiest line is Bushcraft Fishline, crafted from any two pieces of String. The easiest early game strings are Stinging Nettle, Cattail Fibres, Bark Cordage, and Spindly Taproot. Those strings (except the nettle) are also used in Shoreline Fishline and Woodsman's Fishline, so check the Fishline category for more info.
Anything that seems like it would be good fishing bait, odds are it can be used as bait. You can use the entrails from that rabbit or chicken you killed for the hook earlier for an easy choice. Others include ants, bloated leeches, dragonflies, earthworms, grubs, ladybugs, silkmoths, ... Bait will be lost whenever you catch a fish, but will be replaced automatically from bait in your inventory while fishing, so make sure you don't have anything you want to lose in there.
To equip the fishing pole with fishing line and other necessities, left click on the item to select it and then right click it onto the fishing pole. If you want to swap something out, you can take it apart again by right clicking on the fishing pole and selecting Unequip, which will return all the parts to your inventory.
