Gemstones

Gemstones are Curiosities as well as Gilding objects used exclusively on rings. The worst type of gemstone is a Rough Tiny Gemstone, growing in size and cut until you reach the best type, a Brilliant Jotun Gemstone. There are 6 different cuts and 6 possible sizes of Gemstones.

How to Acquire

Gemstones are obtained by mining in a Cave or Mine Hole. Each type of gem has hidden nodes which can overlap with stone/ore/other gem nodes.

Dust Piles have a chance of containing a Dust Jewel, guaranteed on dust piles that spawn at the dead end of a cave (one dust pile will always spawn at the end of a tunnel).

Important: You can mine any size of gem, but without gemhunter credo, you can't mine gems better than Cabochon cut.

Quality

• Gem quality depends on node and is softcapped by Masonry.
• Each gem has certain attributes which it will increase when gilded on a ring, and these attributes increase with both size and cut, but quality affect in common formula:${}_{q10}Bonuses*\sqrt{\frac{{}_{q}Gem}{10}}$.

Notes

• Cut Gemstone with Gemcutter's Wheel can improve cut but has a chance to instead decrease both cut and size.
• Amber can't be mined and appears only as loot in Any Dungeon, or in an Amber Wash.
• Gemstones have a (highly limited) alternative source called "Gem Vein".
