Clay is a core ingredient for Pottery.
Types
There are multiple types of clay. Craft recipes and buildings which do not specify a type required will accept any, and multiple types may be used together in such cases. Clay types are as follows:
- Acre Clay – dug up on Mudflats.
- Ball Clay – dug up in the shallow water.
- Sea Clay – dug up in the ocean shallow water.
- Gray Clay – appears in any shallow surface water.
- Cave Clay – appears in caves.
- Fine Clay – includes few types of clay:
- Coade Clay – must be crafted.
- Bone Clay – must be crafted.
- Potter's Clay – must be crafted.
How to Acquire
Ball Clay is obtained by digging in surface shallow water, 1-5 pieces from each tile. It regenerates over time.
Sea Clay is obtained by digging in surface ocean shallow water, 1-5 pieces from each tile. It regenerates over time.
Acre Clay can be dug up from Mudflats like soil, the terrain deepening with each piece dug. It's not a renewable resource.
Gray Clay and Cave Clay are found as "herb" in surface shallow waters and caves respectively.
Pit Clay can be collected from rare Clay Pits.
Coade, Soap, Bone and Potter's types of clay are crafted. Potter's Clay recipe requires completing of Potter credo.
Quality
For quality information see each clay type's dedicated page.
Trivia
Ball and Acre Clay can be dug out by hand, but it's much faster with a Shovel.
For tips on finding clay, see the Finding high quality water, clay, and soil page.
