Black coal has the same uses as coal - it is used as fuel for the kiln, Crucible, ore smelter and finery forge, and is an ingredient in the steelmaking process.
Black coal acts as two branches worth of fuel when using kilns, ovens, cauldrons, and any other wood-fueled objects. It acts as 1 tick of fuel when using smelters and crucibles.
Note: Black Coal can be found on Level 3 or deeper underground.
Black Coal is one of many stone types.

How to Acquire
- Right-click a boulder and hit "Chip Stone".
- Dig a Mountain terrain.
- Mine a wall in a Cave, requires the Mining skill.
Quality
- Black Coal received from digging or chipping natural boulder have a quality of 10.
- Black Coal received from mining walls in a Cave has node-based quality and is hardcapped by Masonry and then softcapped by Mining Tool.
